This is a beautiful park but I wish they would close the zoo. It is a bit sad. The animals don't look that well cared for.

I've been here before and stayed in the cabins. It's an excellent place, so different. The food in the cafe is really good too. Cabins are a little uncomfortable but the kids love the 'house on the prairie' feel of it. Pool is really good after a walk around the steep zoo. HOWEVER, I phoned to rebook yesterday and was... Nice ride on top of the mountain. Not for people who are afraid of heights. July is to hot. Go in pre or afterseason. Nice walk. And parc is free of entrance. Website is always down. So hard to get info. Roadsign from town to parc are bad. Do no use google navigation. This one leads to ROADS OF DEATH.... More

To get there you need to travel 11.5km along a challenging road with multiple hairpin bends and inclines probably close to 1:6 in steepness at times. If not used to driving on the right you might find it a bit scary. Once there the views are magnificent and they do have some interesting animals...brown bears, camels, hippopotamus, ostrich, emu, rhea,... More

This drive is great for scenery and to eat mountain game - you get an idea of inland Costa Tropical and some of the villages and fruit deposits, instead of being just a beach-bum. If you don't like twisty roads, you may prefer not to bother.

I am staying in Spain with friends who were told about the zoo Pena Escrita and they suggested we visit it with them. It was very hard to find. The road is very narrow, very steep and in poor condition, and the signs were faded, so it would have been easy to get lost. We understand that because of this,... More

This park is high up and secluded after just a short and beautiful, if rather disorientating drive from Almunecar. Despite having come from warmer places the animals seem to love it there. It might help that they don't get many visitors, at least not in the winter. The winding steep roads lend themselves to providing large ranges for the enclosures.... More

Very very out of the ordinary and interesting. After driving a winding road and passing beautiful views, you will reach the entrance of this animal kingdom with a twist. If you like zoos, you will love Peña Escrita!

After a nerve racking drive from the main road north of Almunecar, up steep hairpin after hairpin on narrow roads, we finally sailed through the entrance last thursday afternoon without being asked to pay a penny! We could hardly believe our eyes as we drove past hippos, ostriches and porcupines in enclosures adjacent to the narrow road. We finally stopped... More
