Went for a very interesting herbal walk with a group of 33 people, with Sue explaining about the local herbs and flowers. We arrived at their beautiful cortijo with a breathtaking view where Pete received us with cold drinks followed by a delicious lunch made with ecological and locally sourced produce. After this Sue taught us to make our own cheese, with milk from the local goats, of course, which was a blast. Pete took us for an entertaining and very interesting walk around their plantations, telling us all about their tips and tricks for sustainable agriculture in the mountains. Sue and Pete are so nice, friendly and helpful, nobody wanted to leave.
It was such a great experience, we all loved it and will remember it for a long time!

My husband and I spent the day making bread and cheese with Sue and Pete. Lunch was served using cheeses, breads and vegetables made or grown at their cortijo and we left with our own breads and cheeses along with comprehensive notes to allow us to replicate at home. All in all a great day

I'm so glad you enjoyed your visit to us in La Alpujarra as well as the cakes & cheese! May is certainly the best time to visit for the wildflowers and the lovely weather, not too hot and great for getting out and about for foraging for wild herbs

Last month I spent a day organised by Sue and Pete Rodgers at their home in the mountains overlooking Lanjaron. I had been there before on a bread and cheese making course and this time it was to be a day out exploring the local plant life with a view to understanding a bit more about natural remedies. I have to admit that I am not always the most robust of hikers and dreaded the walk from Lanjaron up to the Rodgers' home. However, Sue took things easy, stopping frequently and pointing out plants and other interesting features on the way; it really didn't feel like too much of a strain and the views were worth the effort! Just wear comfy shoes, a hat if the sun bothers you and otherwise travel light. I had chosen this day out partly for the benefit of a visitor who is interested in self-sufficiency. When we arrived at the property, Pete showed us around the gardens and gave us an insight into how he and Sue manage clearly quite comfortably with regard to energy and water supplies etc. As on my previous visit, a delicious lunch (with home-grown produce) was served by Sue. Afterwards we discussed the properties of various herbs and plants and had a go at making our own balm to take home with us. With Sue's guidance, I concocted an ointment intended for scar reduction which I am now trying on a daily basis. I have to admit that I wished there had been a bit more time for tinkering with potions and ointments but at least I now have an insight into what might be achieved at home.

It was an absorbing day out with a difference and I would recommend it to those who are interested in exploring the use of natural remedies. It's a good starting point to set you thinking.

Spent a good few hours trekking through the hills with Sue learning about the local wild herbs and plants. Followed by a tour around the gardens by Pete and some fabulous food - all homemade with local and home grown ingredients.

I booked in for the cheese and bread making course and thoroughly enjoyed it - Sue and Peter were excellent hosts, very knowledgable about Lanjaron and its produce and they gave a great hands-on introduction to the manufacture of cheese and bread in a magical mountain setting. In addition, a delicious lunch, tea and cakes were provided. I highly recommend booking this workshop, and I look forward to booking another of their workshops if I visit Lanjaron in the future!

Sue led us on a beautiful, walk up the mountains to her cortijo, informing us along the way about the local plants and their medicinal properties, as well as lots of other local info. The house that she and Pete have created is amazing. They live totally off grid and self sufficiently and it was fascinating hearing about how they created it all. Lunch was home made and delicious. An inspiring couple, a lovely day out and highly recommended.

The property is a splendid example of what can be done in tune with nature. They run all sorts of courses; foraging for flowers/herbs/nature walks and much more
The owners, Sue and Pete are wonderful welcoming hosts. We went to their open day and enjoyed a very interesting day. There was a great selection of good food and drink. Throughout the day we enjoyed various talks from local "businesses" including the bee man [ with honey to buy] and The Orgiva Tea Garden's paper flower making demo. It was a relaxing visit and we were able to buy some amazing local artists' prints, cards and associated products.
Sue and Pete also remembered the animal rescue charity collecting donations for the cause.

Thank you so much Kay & Bernie, really pleased you had such a good day. I agree the tea & cakes by The Orgiva Tea Garden were outstanding, Lee's talk on beekeeping kept everyone spell bound and yes we raised some money for Valle Verde Animal Rescue a good day all round
