Such an historic site! Wonderful to think about who may have stepped on my steps. The history of Virginia is so interesting.

The Manassas battlefields are easily accessible from the Washington DC area in lovely rolling hills of Virginia countryside. The visitor centers are very informative about these early battles of the Civil War and the guides are friendly and knowledgeable about the historical events that took place here. The free guided tours are recommended.

One of the smallest of the Civil War Parks it is worth seeing. Things are spread out here but nothing like Antietam or Gettysburg. The traffic on weekends in the surrounding area is heavy but have a little patience. It's worth the visit. The driving tour is not very friendly.

The field was vast and archaeological pieces like the cannons were spread out which was great for anyone who could use a little exercise. The visitor's center was educational and I bought a lot of civil war memorabilia from the adjacent shop.

That was further brought to life through the short movie describing the events (approximately 45 minutes) and park rangers who expounded upon the details. The Park Service only offers two tours (Henry House... More

We decided to stop by after visiting the Bull Run winery, and it was definitely work it! We walked about a mile in rolling hills while soaking in some history. I wish we had more time to explore!

My knowledge of the Civil War is limited to readings of general history. I've never spent any significant time learning of a specific battle or of the men who fought there. The Park Service exhibits on the battlefield does a great job explaining the position of the troops, and the results of the fighting. I strongly advise visiting. Not just... More
