Kathy was our guide and she did an excellent job. She has invested many years into knowing about this cemetery and its prominence in American history. Hollywood Cemetery is interesting but not just for whom is buried there. It's a living park and art museum. The grounds are beautiful ---plant lovers will enjoy the tour. With scenic views of the... Was told by friends it is a must see place. It was too cold and too big to walk the whole thing. It's a maze. I tried to do the tour guide thing but wasn't successful so we just used the online map and winged it. Beautiful place with so much history. Had to find the dog watching over the... More

Our weekend in Richmond has had pretty crummy, rainy days, so we decided to drive through the cemetery and take pictures through the window. There were a fair amount of walkers, dog walkers, bike riders, etc. This was not a busy place on our trip. However, if you drive through, there will inevitably be someone behind you trying to get... It is not a morbid activity to visit this cemetery. It is rich in history. There are many civil war graves as well as those of notables. Jefferson Davis and some of his family are buried here. The pyramid is striking. As you enter pick up a map of the area. You can drive slowly around and stop in some... More

Tough cemetery to navigate. If not for the website, we wouldn't have found James Monroe, John Tyler, Jefferson Davis, & other Confederate monuments. The cemetery is beautiful, but at dusk it begins to resemble a horror movie set. Old grave markers and mausoleums. Very impressive place.

Walking around Hollywood Cemetery is like taking a walk back in time. It is wonderful to walk around and see where Presidents are interred among other famous people.

Should you need reminding that Virginia is the Mother of Presidents, James Monroe, John Tyler, and Jefferson Davis are all at rest in this beautiful, leafy cemetery. As the capital of the Confederacy, Richmond also honors those who fought and died for the southern cause. The massive pyramid of the Confederate Soldiers Monument is constructed from boulder-size stones. Generals George... More

Many famous people buried here - including two Presidents - Monroe and Tyler (three including Jefferson Davis). Entire huge section dedicated to Confederates. Beautiful views of the James River and Richmond skyline. Peaceful and reflective of so many lives lost.

My family (including 3 small children) did the walking tour of the cemetery which covers a couple of miles over hilly ground. I wouldn't recommend bringing children here unless you drive through the grounds (which, being from out of town we didn't know was possible). This is a large, beautiful, and expansive cemetery with some great views of the James... More
