The River was above flood stage and was especially impressive when viewed from the recently opened T.Tyler Potterfield Memorial walking bridge. It is across from the Tredegar Ironworks and has a variety of ways of describing the days when Richmond fell to Union forces.

We had a view of the James from our hotel window that brought vividly to mind how it must have looked to Union troops who tried to cross it many times during the Civil War: beautiful, but also a barrier that would be a challenge to cross under fire. That people now can raft or kayak on its rapids is... More

We went walking along the James River path and it was really pretty. On a nice day it is definitely worth the scenic walk.

There are several good view points of the river. The best from the Brown's Island area and the new foot bridge across the river from Brown's Island. Learn a little about the nature of the river and its many upstream falls. The river is fairly fast running through Richmond. You can appreciate how it was used for water power for... More

When leaving the Tredengar iron works we saw the really neat walking bridge across the James river. It was a fun walk. Glad that we made 'the crossing'.

Spent a few moments here just to see what it was like. It is a nice walk, the river runs swiftly but looks clean and serious. Nice walking.....

Walking along and across the James River to Belle Isle is a nice Sunday morning activity. The pedestrian bridge is walker, jogger, cyclist and pet friendly. You might even see some rafters coming down the river toward downtown.
