I learned so much about Poe from great exhibits and Chris, our amazing guide. There is also a most fantastic 3D model of Richmond circa 1925 that is tantalizing and waiting for a student to do a thesis on. A gem!

I really had a good time at the Edgar Allan Poe Museum. They have 4 maintained historical buildings from the early 19th century and a garden area that is a replica of Poe's home garden and there are 2 black cats! The information is very interesting and educational. I learned a lot that I had not known about Poe and... More

The museum is on the small side. It is not a guided tour. You walk from one building to another around a small courtyard. it was pleasant and interesting but not extraordinary.

I felt that a lot of the displays could have been presented in a more disabled manner. Most of the displays were written/displayed in text signs that were extremely difficult to read and to process.

I really enjoyed visiting this museum while in Richmond. I would classify myself as a very novice poetry reader, almost never, however I felt after leaving here that I had a much better understanding of his poems/short stories and the man himself. Make sure to check out all of the buildings on the property. A good companion location with this... More

Lots of great information here! Tons of artifacts from Poe's life and many details on his time in Richmond. Loved the two resident black cats. Exhibits are small and you probably can't spend many hours here, but it was a lovely visit altogether.

I stopped by when I had a few hours to take in the sites. I found the staff amazingly friendly and the layout of the museum gives a great view into old Richmond. Poe fans won't be disappointed with many artifacts directly related to the author and several first addition volumes open for a peak back into history. A great... More

The tour is cute and cheap but parking is hard to find. The tales of his life were hard and creepy. The black cats that stole the garden are a reminder of the day before Halloween is one for the living.

This place was great for die hard fans who want to know more about the man and get a glimpse into his life. I have visited Poe's grave but seeing his actual belongings was an even more awesome experience. You can't take pictures inside which is a little disappointing but I understand this is not allowed so that the items... More

Do not be discouraged if you are not a Poe expert. This is a place for all. Discover Richmond from before the war. Experience the back story of one of America's great authors. See some truly unique pieces of local and literary history. Located in one of only a handful of buildings that survived the burning of Richmond after the... More
