I was in Austin and this was recommended by a friend. It was a very nice excursion and very interesting from a geological/hydrological standpoint. It was cool seeing the various artesian springs with the water percolating up from underground. Lots of bird activity, but I...More

We took a weekend trip out to the falls for hiking this month. It was unseasonably cold, so instead of doing the 5 mile hike, opted to just hit the falls. Was not disappointed. We were able to walk as far as we wanted in...More

Be sure to visit all Pedernales has to offer. Perhaps start with the "bird blind"; even if you are not a "birder" the wonder of the birds you will see is awe inspiring. Be sure to walk the trails. There are trail types for all...More

Searching Texas Hill Country for the rare illusive Golden-Cheeked Warbler off we went on a tip, from a birder to Pedernales Falls state park to twitch this Texas Specialty. We clearly heard the bird singing in the forested hills, however I could not see him....More

The trails are well shaded and uncrowded. The falls are very pretty, but swimming is banned for 2 miles on either side. The 5.5 mile loop to the scenic overlook is definitely not worth the effort.

Went on walk to the falls with my 12 year old. Easy walk to overview. Bit steeper to get down to river level but families and older folks were all doing it so not too bad. Pretty spot with cascading water forming large pools. But...More

Had a great time at Pedernales Falls. Beautiful scenery and a great place to get away from civilization without having to go too far. Half mile hike from the parking area but well worth it. Be sure to visit both areas to see the falls...More

There is a walk from parking to the falls and grade is reasonably tough back up from the viewing area and their is really a good climb down to the fall. The fall is wide and long. Not a major drop but more of a...More

This is a little off the beaten path, but you will be happy that you visited. The waterfall is picturesque and the view from the top is breath-taking. I recommend you wear comfortable clothes and bring plenty of water with you.

On the park map they show one, in the camping area, at the excess parking area.. go to tpwd, parks, pedernales and download a park map. It shows everything on the park.
