Maze
Aug 2021 • Family
We had a lovely time in mountshannon and would have stayed longer except the rain. There is a great maze even me and my husband had difficulty to find the exit😂. Nice playground and walk to the marina. Nice cafe across the road the snug take away pizzas. Would recommend to other families.

Steer clear of trying to hire a boat
Jul 2021 • Couples
Couldn't be in this person's company when he remarked he doesn't hire his fishing boats to Dublin people. French and German customers only. Shocking thing to say to an Irish tourist in their own country.
Should read zero rate

Interesting bit of history
Jul 2019 • Couples
We booked with the local guide out of Mountshannon to get to the island. The provided tour book had great information. Very pretty setting.

Brilliant day on Holy Island
Aug 2018 • Family
A trip to Holy Island with Ger Madden is one of the best things we did on our trip to the West. He's some character and we all learned so much about Irish history. Highly recommended for a day out.

Gem of a wee spot - Holy Island environs
Jul 2018 • Family
For some peace and nature connection, pack yourself a lunch and picnic blanket, and you'll be set for a day of adventuring. If you have kids, the Aistear playground and stone labyrinth will be a wide ranging stopover that can take as long as you like..
Highly recommended is the annual Arts Festival which runs variously over the June bank holiday weekend (1st weekend of June) with either one to three weeks before it!!
The Snug is a little cafe run by a French couple, where I even got VEGAN pizza (win!) but is only open certain days, for example the weekend from Weds nights. I'm not sure. Best to ring ahead. Alain also runs a monthly film club where you can take in a film with meal for a prix fixe, which is apparently very well attended locally. The beautiful and unique park which is directly across from the Snug is also home to the wonderful Mountshannon Artisanal Market offering organic produce, handcrafts fairly traded and or locally made, delicious baked goods, and vegan cafe meals .. The market is on 11-3pm every Saturday. They have a Facebook page, so you may find more info there to be sure.
If you love the water, there are all sorts of wonderful activities at the harbour, including Ger Madden, local historian, and his ferrying you out to Holy Island, an awe inspiring place of culture, mythology, and legend. ...and did I leave out historical signigificance?

Whether you are on lone retreat, with your beloved, two hands busy with the bairns, or with the full crew, there'll be a nice experience for all on this special part of the emerald isle. Go n'éirí an bothar leat!

Something for everyone in this review....
Jul 2018 • Family
It looks like some reviews here are of the park in Mountshannon and some are of the holy island. Since I was at both, I’ll give you the BOGO special. The park is pretty cool. There is something for everyone there. My daughter loved the exercise equipment that is set up. We all enjoyed the maze very much, very well done, with a tribute to the past. There is also a grass labyrinth. I preferred the maze, with its stone walls. I also enjoyed a 15 minute nap on bench under a tree….something for everyone here. As for the Holy Island, the boat get across is at the harbor NOT at the street sign that points to holy island. There is a guy with a little boat who takes you across for 12 euros. Cash only. We were told by someone that he does a tour there, but no, he drops you off and that is fine. About 8 people can fit in the boat and he drops you and picks you up in an hour. They give you a book (you need to return it) that explains what you are seeing. The island is pretty cool, and you do feel alone there. We probably could have used about 20 more minutes (my wife mediates and channels at these places) but most of the others seemed fine with an hour. Things are spread out a bit and you are on a bit of a scavenger hunt trying to find things like the bargaining stone. We enjoyed the day.

This place was good for the soul. We had the island to ourselves as the weather had not been good. Do not miss a visit here!

Activities for all the family
Aug 2017 • Family
The park is located on the edge of the village and contains a playground, a large maze that the family can wander about in, and play hide and seek or generally just get lost, and it also has a large green area for kicking the ball around.

Not far from Aistear Park is the harbour where Holy Island boat tours will rent you a pedal boat to see the lake for the just 10.00.

I would highly suggest a visit to not just the park, but the general area of Mountshannon
