Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

The Skógafoss is one of the biggest waterfalls in the country ( width of 82 feet and a drop 200 ft). A single or double rainbow is visible on sunny days. You can get drenched if they go too near the waterfall, again due to the spray. According to legend, the first Viking settler , Þrasi Þórólfsson, buried a treasure in a cave behind the waterfall. At the eastern side of the waterfall, hiking and trekking trail hoes up to the pass Fimmvörðuháls between the glaciers Eyjafjallajökull and Mýrdalsjökull. A 430-step staircase leads up the slope to the top of the waterfall.
I visited this place on 20th Mar'23 as part of our Southern Iskand your. It was clear weather but very cold and icy wind blowing. The ground being icy, you need to be very careful to avoid slipping on the ice. We couldn't climb up the view point, tge steps were covered with ice and being very slippery.
The view of the fall was majestic. With icecles all around it was a treat to the eyes. The cascades of the fall flows as Skoga river
The river was almost frozen due to the cold weather. I could walk near the main cascade and got a majestic view. There is a small museum displaying local artifacts and traditions. There is a souvenir shop and a cafe as well.
A must visit spit in Iceland.

This waterfall was stunning! The largest we saw during our trip. And it was a sunny day, so the rainbow in front of it made it even better!
It was the most crowded waterfall we visited.

One of the must waterfalls to see in Iceland. And especially if you are a Game of Throne fan. Waterfall is very beautiful. And the rainbow you can see in the waterfall in sunny weather is amazing too. I also recommend to climb the 527 steps up - little bit exhausting but it is worth it. It is amazing to see the river and the waterfall itself from that perspective too. We had a private tour and visiting this place was part of our day. There was a big parking lot and also possibility to go to toilet.

One of the best waterfalls in southern Iceland. Definitely worth the drive here. Lots of parking and toilets available at 200ISK. Worth the walk up to the top for the views.

This is a key destination when in Iceland and we’ll worth it as it’s one of the taller waterfalls and really impressive.
Good photo opps at bottom, make sure to wear a waterproof! There are some steps to get a view from above, very steep though.

Popular waterfall in southern Iceland. Truly magnificent waterfall. View from below or climb stairs to view the top. Many gulls nest in the cliffs. Beautiful rainbows visible due to the amount of water in the falls.

The Skógafoss waterfall is epic. It was our last stop on our South Coast tour. It was relatively quiet when we arrived so we were able to walk right up to the waterfall. As we approached we got drenched though. If you want to get close for a good picture, you are just going to have to accept you are going to get very wet. Was very glad we had our waterproofs on. The sound and height of the waterfall is insane. It’s so cool. Was very glad to see this. Just a shame the steps were shut in winter as I would have liked to walk to the top to see the waterfall from above. Excuse to return I guess.

If you are able you can get great view from the top of the waterfall. Please aware it is around 460 odd steps from bottom to top, they have got handrails to help you with the climb as well.
The waterfall is amazing from both top and bottom, to be fair you get to see more from the bottom.

Made a stop year as we journeyed along the South Coast. Really cool waterfall with huge volumes of water given the rain made that day. We didn't walk to the top as was close and didn't feel like we needed to highly recommend

I booked ahead of time with Sixt. The car was good... but they did use a lot of upsell tactics. "Sandstorm damage" ... they said was highly recommended if traveling to the south. We encountered nothing but pleasant drizzle. Aside from that, the company was descent.

How long would you need to spend at the falls?
keett712

If it’s just at ground level 30 mins should be adequate. If you want to reach the upper levels allocate 1& 1/2 hours to 2 hours dependent on your exploring needs.

Is it possible to park the car overnight (2 nights)? If yes, how much does it cost and how save is it? Thanks a lot!

Hello there. There is no overnight parking on Skogáfoss. There are signs everywhere that warn you parking after 7:00PM is prohibited. There are, however, a campsite and a hotel in the vicinity, just minutes away from the waterfall. The campsite is about 1500kr. and the hotel rates change depending on the season. Hope this information helps.

Is it there electricity? I need to charge my cameras and drones batteries, so I'm looking the best camping around this area to stay. Could you tell me if there is enough connections for it (does each spot has its connection?) Is this camping the best around for that?

Not sure if there is electricity availble to use - there is a modern cafe nearby and, within the camping ground a hut for facilities (showers and toilets) which may have shaver outlets. If you spoke to the folk in the cafe I'm sure you could come to some arrangement!

Hello Debbie
I can only speak to the time I visited. My visit was the first week of December. I can honestly say that December is a wonderful time to see the northern lights though.
