About
Found just off the Ring Road, Seljalandsfoss is a majestic 200-feet waterfall. You can even walk behind it—the closest you can get to experiencing the full force of the waterfall. Surrounded by green hills and volcanic rock, Seljalandsfoss is a popular spot for photography, and during the summer months you can spot its mist from quite a distance away. Gljufrabui Waterfall is a short hike away, a hidden waterfall that you’ll have to wade through a shallow stream to reach.
Wear good shoes and a waterproof jacket as the falls can be slippery and wet. For fewer crowds, visit early in the morning or just before sunset. – Tripadvisor

Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Beautiful waterfall and landscape surrounding it, but packed with tourists.
I would have liked to have walked behind it, but it was closed due to ice.

Beautiful. Directly off the road. Very interesting. Multiple falls all along the same wall. This set of mountains has falls all over it. Most frozen during March.

We drove past later than planned and the sun had already set. We had decided not to stop, until we saw it from the main road fully lit up! It was gorgeous. We were the only people there, and it was spectacular in the dark!!

Walk behind the waterfall and see what is on the other side. It is a very popular, but beautiful spot. If you plan to walk behind the waterfall, plan to get wet.

Seljalandsfoss waterfall was part of our private South coast tour with Stefan Helgi Valssen. Actually there are several waterfalls and if you are lucky you can walk behind the biggest one. We could not do that due to safety reasons because it was too icy. This waterfall is quite known in popular culture - music videos, movies and tv-series.

Seljalandsfoss is a dramatic waterfall in the Southern region of the country close to the Golden Circle. The waterfall drops 60 metres and is quite a sight up close which we were able to do on our visit. Car parking charges are the only sour note about our trip to Seljalandsfoss which were extremely high considering the relatively short time visitors would spend at the waterfall. Getting to Seljalandsfoss is straightforward, it is located on along Route 1 exiting onto Road 249, direction Þórsmörk.

Rented a car and drove down from Reykjavik, nice scenic drive. Parked in the on site carpark - pay with card. Toilets, souvenir shop and food van also on site.
It was icey and wet and therefore the path behind the main waterfall was closed. Although we couldn't go behind the waterfall it was still good to see.
We followed the path past the main waterfall and discovered the "secret" waterfall at the end of the path- Gljufrabui. Highly recommend going into the cave - wish I had brought another set of clothes and shoes to change into and a towel as it was deep at the entrance.

This was our first stop on our South Coast tour. We started by visiting the smaller of the two waterfalls and it was awesome, as you could walk right in and get up close to the waterfall as my partner did (she was wearing waterproof shoes), we then walked along to the later waterfall which is stunning and huge. Popular spot with a small but lovely little souvenir shop, a little cafe and some toilets.

A lovely stop on our south coast roadtrip. There is more than one waterfall here. We didn't get to go behind it as a lot of ice nor did we get to go into the hidden one a short walk nearby.

Hello,
I agree, you won't need a 4x4. We traveled the south coast and saw all the sights in a "regular car". Only one time would it have maybe helped, but honestly, I probably would not have used it if we had it.
I'm not sure what the F-Roads are, but everywhere we went was easily accessible - except for the one I mentioned above. We just drove a bit slower and there was no problem at all.
I hope you have a wonderful time. We absolutely loved it. Feel free to reply if you have any more questions about where to go or what to do.

The parking is not far. It is better to have good shoes and especially waterproof clothing or ... a swimsuit ;-)

No, hay que pagarlo con tarjeta 700 puas te cobran por pelearte con mil chinos para sacar una foto y seguir un caminito como ovejas para verla, sin poder apartarte para disfrutarla a tu manera.

As others have said it is a short walk, maybe just over 100 yards. We were there in the winter and my wife was cold so she stayed in the car and we didn't pay. There is a small gift shop there. During the winter you can't go behind the falls as everything is iced over. Some people were trying to go up there even though there was a sign and chain to stop them. The steps were icy and I doubt they could get behind the falls. I took pics from the small bridge where the water flows.

I am planning on visiting Seljalandsfoss in August. My plan is to leave KEF airport around 6pm and start the Ring road counterclockwise. Is it possible to visit Seljalandsfoss in the evening around 8 pm?

Hey, it is possible but that would mean no stops until you get there. I would probably allow for a little bit more time which would give you time to stop for example on Hellisheidi. The waterfall is beautiful the later the evening gets because it is facing west. Have a safe trip!
i would hear more details about this wedding. how their get to the waterfall, which hotel their choose and brief descriptions of the place where their were.
