Very interesting museum

A little out of way, but worth seeing. Free entrance. A lot of military hardware and informative displays. We spent about an hour. Interesting place if you like history.

I've lived here for almost 40 years and this was my first trip to the IL State Military Museum. I am sorry I didn't go sooner and take my kids when they were little. Very nice displays of "soldier stuff" thru the years.

The museum covers the history of the Illinois National Guard from the French and Indian War to the modern war on terror. Lots of hands-on exhibits that will add tremendous VERY moving. Strongly recommended place to visit.

The exhibits are very expertly done and very interesting. This is a place you should visit, if you are interested in military history. They even have Santa Ana's wooden leg.

I made an unplanned visit because I saw the direction signs as I drove around. There are some outside displays of helicopters, tanks and artillery pieces. Inside the history goes from the French and Indian War to present war on terror. The big surprise was the leg of Santa Anna No idea that he had one and no idea that... More

A lot of people seem to review this museum very favorably, so I want to be careful because I'm not knocking it. It is worth going to. Maybe my feelings are biased because we went to the Lincoln museum before this, so most anything is going to seem a little shabby in comparison. We went on a weekday at about... More

We love to come to the Military Museum for their special events as well as to stop by and look at the exhibits. There are always new things to see and very knowledgeable volunteers that can answer any question as well as tell you all about the area they are representing. Lots of hands on. Can't wait to go back... More

This place was amazing! It has a fantastic building full of exhibits all about the past wars and weapons, clothes, and people in them. They do not charge an entrance fee, but run only on donations. Fantastic place for history buffs, or people interested in military. A fantastic site to see, and more people should go see it.

This is a nice stop while visiting Springfield. We spent about an hour here and learned a great deal about the Springfield National Guard and their involvement in all our country's wars and battles. No entrance fee, but donations are appreciated. There were no crowds and parking was easy.
