This is a stunning building inside and out. The rotunda was beautiful and had so much detail. The security guards were very friendly on a Saturday. One thing to know: The tours online say every 30 minutes, but if only one guide then it's every hour so make sure you check.

We had a whirlwind tour of our breathtakingly beautiful Capitol building. Everyone should take time to visit, especially residents of Illinois. Not sure if they are all as fast paced as ours was; but you can stay as long as you like after the tour. Bring a camera/phone for pictures.

I give tours of the Capitol that include the wacky early years of statehood - including why the Congress of the era wanted to have this state formed ( pay for the Illinois- Michigan Canal that would allow circumnavigation of the then United States). The building itself was the first statehouse after the federal Capitol was completed and it became... More

A beautiful capitol building. Very interesting to learn the building was designed by the same architect as the Iowa State Capitol, and it shows in some areas. I am just starting a goal of visiting as many state capitol buildings as I can. The building is better integrated into the city than Iowa's State Capitol, but not as well integrated... More

A beautiful capitol building inside and out. The tour was good but way too short, there's so much history and great beauty that we needed more time to really see everything and take in the history, but the tour guide went about it all too fast and didn't give enough time to really enjoy the building. So we will do... More

Took our 8 and 10 year old with us. They were just old enough although the 10yr old was much more knowledgeable of the legislation. Great history of the state, beautiful building , paintings and statues.

I live 2 blocks from here and pass it everyday and I sometimes just stand and appreciate the ornate design and execution. I also look to the flag pole to see if we lost anyone to combat.

One of our hobbies is doing state capitol tours when ever we can. This tour was great and we were not disappointed and the building and grounds are beautiful

We took the tour so we had a chance to see the upper floors. The tour guide was very good and friendly. Well worth the time if you're in Springfield. Tour was free.

We were too early for the tour so decided just to look around (first floor only). Worth a stroll, beautiful building.
