Painstakingly rebuilt after being disassembled in the 1960s, this Greek Revival masterpiece saw Lincoln serve as a lawyer and legislator. In 1858, Lincoln delivered his landmark "House Divided" speech in the Capitol's Representatives Hall.

We had a good tour guide and enjoyed the history of the Old Capitol. It is almost adjacent to the Presidential Library and the promenade outside the gates had a lot of Lincoln statues.

This is a great historical attraction. The building has been well preserved and appears as it did in Lincoln's day when he served in the Illinois House. The state offices are restored with artifacts and appear as they would have in the 1800s. The history...More

We took a guided tour through the old capital building. Historic building and very interesting. The chambers was perhaps the most interesting part or the tour. Showing a draped seat in which would have been where Lincoln sat

Visiting the Old State Capitol and seeing how our legislators worked 150+ years ago was a great lesson in history. Worth the stop.

It is privately owned. They do not charge and advertise that but when you get there they ask for donations. It is interesting to see but not as spruced up as the Museum.

We went inside and there isn't a lot to see but the building is remarkable both inside and out. Springfield has managed to keep that small town feel by limiting the high rise buildings and keeping the Victorian era feel. It really does transport you...More

We stopped here by convenience. The Lincoln and Herndon law offices are visible from the square and the museum and library are about a block away. We were on our way to the museum but ran across this on the way. It was neat to...More

Think I missed something by not taking a tour but I did love the two houses of state legislature, I was struck by the many decks of playing cards and chess tables. And we thought State Employees goofing off is a modern phenom LOL

See what your Government should still be! Small government with more Liberty, as the Founders intended!

I believe they do. You will have to go up a set of stairs to get into the building. Once in, there is an elevator to the second floor.
