Enjoyed it but tour took longer than expected
May 2021 • Family
It is a shame that this Castle was not totally preserved. Has been used for other purposes since the 1940s but is still a very nice museum. With the guided tour it takes almost two hours to complete. Amazing woodwork. Tragedy that it was not kept original. Has to be one of the top 100 interesting private residence in the United States.

Nice place for a stroll

The grounds are open for a nice stroll or picnic. The interior is beautiful if they are open for tours.

One of the highlights of Omaha
Jul 2020
They do not accept advance reservations, and they are currently limiting the tour size to 10 people at a time so we were worried we would not get our preferred tour time. Fortunately, we got in at our preferred time. They have an on premises parking lot as well as nearby street parking. You need to allow 90 minutes for the complete tour, and face masks are being required. The house is full of finely crafted woodwork and stained glass windows, and the guide highlights many of the unique and Scottish Baronial features of the house.

Sunday afternoon visit
Nov 2019
We wanted something to do on a Sunday afternoon and I remembered the Joslyn Castle, so we went there and took the tour. It was GREAT! It is one of those things that is right in your home town and you never seem to visit it. Well we did visit it and it was worth it. It is a must see in Omaha!

Every room had a unique theme and floor! The slightly pink marble on the outside steps is worth the visit. The staff takes plenty of time to answer your questions. A must see while visiting Omaha!

Waste of money
Sep 2019
We bought tickets for the inside tour. We watched a little movie and then a lady with a thick German? accent informed us that all the rooms were empty. No furnishings. Just empty rooms. We left without taking the rest of the tour.

Well worth your time
May 2019
The Joslyn family were major benefactors to many Omaha institutions, including the Art Museum. The Joslyn Castle was originally built as their home and served for many years as the headquarters for the Omaha City Schools. Consequently, many of the historic elements were lost due to numerous renovations over the years but the Castle is being restored (as money allows) and many historic elements are being uncovered, rediscovered or restored.

The tour guides provide a good history of the Castle and of the City of Omaha. The guide on our tour was quite knowledgeable about the history of the building and the City.

Well worth the time to tour. Be sure to check tour dates/times and the availability of tours - the castle is NOT open everyday.

American History
Aug 2019
I've lived in Omaha for two years now and i finally got to visit the inside of the place. It was beautiful. It's a little hard sometimes to keep up on the days and hours it is open but I finally made it. It was worth the wait. I felt like i stepped back to the turn of the century. It thought it funny how the tour guide was telling us that the city, even today wanted to raise taxes on the Joslyn family for property taxes, all the while they were investing in the city of Omaha. The family closed up the property and put cows on the land to teach the city of Omaha a lesson. Even today, these miserable government employees always want to have other people's money. The city gave in i guess and the family was able to move back in to their home. Visit the Joslyn Caste, the tour guides are really nice.
