Lake Hood is in SW Anchorage, next to Stevens International Airport and the Alaska Aviation Museum. You can watch (mostly) single-engine float planes takeoff and land every few minutes.

This is aviation heaven. We spent two afternoons hanging out watching the float planes come and go. And what a collection of aircraft all around the water and paved strips!

We drove around the entire Seaplane base and it was fascinating. Then we stayed at Lakefront Anchorage. Great experience!

GREAT little museum ... lots of Alaska history to go with viewing the planes. Would recommend to anyone who's an airplane or Alaska buff.

We arrived here early for a day trip to Brooks Lodge in Katmai National Park. The reflective lake is beautiful in the morning with sun rising and planes (both float and regular planes) flying off.

A great place to drive completely around and watch the abundance of floatplanes takeoff and land. Right next to a very good aviation museum.

Found a place to park nearby and enjoyed watching the planes. However, based on wind currents the planes take off and land in different sections of the harbor, so you have to watch from somewhere and decipher where to watch from for the best view...More
