The platform overlooks the Alaska Railroad depot there are informational signs which provide a brief history of Alaska state history from Tent City to statehood there is a bronze statue of President Eisenhower--he signed Alaska into the union in 1959.
This is a pleasant enough area, located near the train depot and market area. It's a salute to statehood, unveiled in the 1990s on the 100th birthday of Dwight Eisenhower. You do know that Alaska became a state when Ike was President, right?
