We found the Terminal really interesting when we were on a bike tour of many areas around Seattle. We especially loved speaking with a fisherman who was willing to tell us all about his career and a typical trip up to Alaska to fish for wild salmon all while painting his boat. It gave us a good idea of the work of this important Seattle industry.

Went here specifically to wander around and shoot photos. There were several crab fishing boats here, including a couple from Deadliest Catch. the people I encountered were very nice and willing to talk. The memorial to those lost at sea is very special

Good restaurant Chinooks offers wild Alaskan salmon year round. Docks are full of gillnet and seigner boats which adds to the authenticity of the experience. There is a great seafood market and classy local arts and crafts shop. Don't go out of your way, but if you are hungry for good seafood and have a few hours make the 10 minute trip from downtown.

Big boats, little boats - this is the real thing - where the fishermen keep their boats. A real working area - worth the visit.

The only reason I came down here was to see if I could spot a few of the Deadliest Catch boats as the rumor was this is where some of them dock in the off season. Sure enough I was able to locate the Time Bandit and the Brenna A. Brenna A was going under some serious renovations and pretty sure I saw her captain, Sean Dwyer, on deck talking with some of the workers.

Time Bandit was all by herself and looked like she had seen better days. They obviously pretty these boats up with a fresh coat of paint prior to taping for the show. I thought it was pretty cool to get to see these 2 boats, otherwise, it's just another dock with a bunch of boats just like anywhere else.

My husband and I had our first date at Chinooks. You will be charmed by the fishing boats docked here in Salmon Bay while you sip wine and
eat oysters. "Little Chinooks" has great fish & chips. The Fisherman's Memorial is located here, as well.

Seattle’s hidden gem located on Salmon Bay in the Interbay neighborhood east of the Hiram M. Chittenden Locks and immediately west of the Ballard Bridge. The Terminal is a dock for Seattle Washington’s commercial fishing fleet. It serves more than 700 vessels up to 250 feet long. Check out the Fisherman’s Memorial memorializing more than 500 local commercial fisherman and women who been lost at sea since the beginning of the 20th century. The Terminal is home to eating establishments: Bay Café, Chinook’s at Salmon Bay, Anthony’s Little Chinook’s, Fisherman’s Green Market & Deli, Highliner Public House

After going to the Ballard Locks we decided to go to Fisherman's Terminal for some lunch.

This location is definitely not as touristy as many places in Seattle. The Terminal is home for hundreds of working fishing boats. There isn't anything too dramatic here to see other than the memorial to fisherman who lost their lives at sea.

The building that has the Fisherman's Terminal sign on it is comprised mostly of restaurants and some retail.

One of the Terminal's prime attractions, of course, is fresh fish. Chinook's At Salmon Bay serves the freshest fish you'll ever find without catching it yourself. You can't go wrong with their Fish/Chips or Salmon Fettuccine. It has terrific views of the Terminal and Salmon Bay.

We also like to have a few beers at the Highliner Pub. Highliner has a large selection of local/regional beers on tap.

This was an pleasant surprise! A fun place to visit. There's a place to grab a bite, which was very good, some small shops and coffee places too. The best part was seeing all the huge fishing boats/crabbing boats. Even saw the Time Bandit from the show Deadliest Catch. Was a really fun day.

Located on the south side of Salmon Bay, Fisherman's Terminal is just north of Downtown Seattle and slightly east of the Hiram M. Chittenden Locks and is home to hundreds of fishing boats and pleasure water craft.

And. . . let us be perfectly clear - Fisherman's Terminal is a working pier. It's not sexed up for the tourists, it's not glamorous, it's not pretty, it smells of fish and rust and salt and it's not very tourist friendly - I'm not sure why it would be included as a stop on a tour.

That said, it is terribly fascinating, if you enjoy looking behind the scenes of how industry works. But at the end of the day, it's really nothing more than just a bunch of fishing boats tied up to a dock.

There are, however, some things to see and do. The Wild Salmon Seafood Market is a local seafood establishment where you can buy some of the world's most delicious salmon right off the boats (when in season, of course). For eats, you have the Bay Cafe - a greasy spoon Americana establishment, and Chinook's - a more up-scale, sit-down seafood restaurant. If you need to get your coffee on, there's a couple of espresso stands within rock throwing distance.

Lastly There's a fisherman's memorial to all the souls lost at sea. And while I've never watched the show - apparently the boats of the Deadliest Catch are moored here, and if timed correctly, you might see some of the crew.

On the other hand, those who say "This is not a photo stop!" are wrong. I can shoot Fisherman's Terminal for days and never come away with duplicate shots. You just have to look with an artistic eye, beyond just the panorama. Oh, and don't let a typically gloomy Seattle day put you off from visiting. I've shot some great, atmospheric pictures on a foggy day.

To sum up - if you like to pull back the curtain and see behind the scenes, it's worth a stop on the way to the Ballard Locks. It won't take you very long at all to see everything (slightly longer if you eat), but unless you're a photographer, don't go out of your way to stop.
