Despite wonderful views of rhino, hippo, giraffe, and orangutan, the Zoo is simply too understaffed at the moment to enforce the State and Zoo's COVID-19 safety policies. I perceive that the Zoo is doing the best that it can with the resources it has available: timed entry, one-way path signage, signage demonstrating how to wear a mask, signage of no eating or drinking, hand sanitizer stations, and staff asking guests to put masks back on. However, due to the size of the Zoo and unfortunately a noticeable portion of guests unable to adhere to the guidelines, our family did not feel safe. During our two-hour visit, we witnessed countless (30+) guests not wearing masks, or wearing masks below their noses or chins. Sometimes they used the excuse of drinking, eating, or vaping (outside of designated dining areas) to keep their masks off. On at least three occasions, we witnessed staff very politely ask guests to wear their masks, to which the guests complied - only to remove their masks again once out of eyesight of the staff. Guests also frequently ignored the social distancing signage all over the Zoo, coming right up against us at exhibits, or cornering us at an exhibit - sometimes improperly wearing masks - making it difficult and uncomfortable to "escape." We feel that the Zoo has most likely done the best they can with the resources available; but due to the sizable portion of guests who choose to ignore the regulations, and the inability of the size of the staff to enforce these regulations, we do not feel safe enough to return to the Zoo until the R and fatality rates of COVID-19 are significantly lower.…

Beautiful zoo with lots of animals! Good covid protocols. The zoo grounds are very pretty and were decorated with amazing displays for the holiday season. We were there during the day, but can imagine the night light display was amazing.

This is a review specifically for the Covid period as I’m not sure what it is like during other times. First tip- book early for a time slot- weekends fill up early. We went at 11:30 and that worked out well. We are from Minnesota so we took the #5 bus- so easy drops you right in front of the Zoo, 24 minutes and cheap! The Zoo has excellent plans in flow, and keeping people separated. There were several areas closed, but as I had never been before I can’t say what. I did not find that it changed my opinion of the zoo. Such a green lush place. Over all the majority of animals had very green areas to live in. I was impressed by the size- and as there were no crowds during the time of Covid it was a very enjoyable Zoo visit. I highly recommend this as a safe enjoyable thing to do during Covid!…

This was a fun visit and we were impressed by staff conscientiously enforcing mask and social distancing policies. Many of the areas were closed, but those that were open offered a chance to view lots of exotic animals. Last time we visited it was rainy and the animals were all in their shelters (probably pitying the foolish humans out in the rain} and we didn't see much. This time was different and we thoroughly enjoyed it.…
