The seven miles of Alii Drive, along the shoreline connecting Historic Kailua Village to Keauhou, generally follows the ancient route of the ala loa foot trail that evolved over time as a road. Four of the seven ancient Royal Centers in use in Kona are located on what is now called Alii Drive. There are dozens of Points of Interest and Scenic Stops along the route. Nov 2018 • Solo
This walk is along the kona coast from kona beach hotel to the ocean south to Keauhou.there are many historical places to see , such as Ahuena Heiau, makuaikaua church, hulihee palace and etc.it's on the west side so best time to walk is around15:00-17:00 , it's not too hot and the buildings get the sunlight for best photos.

many points of interest
Mar 2018 • Family
Ali’i Drive is the main street of Kailua-Kona – starting at Kailuea Pier there are several historic and sacred sites plus ancient ruins near the shops, restaurants, hotels and beaches. Continue south along the road until you are at Keauhou .There are points of interest along the seven mile drive to enlighten visitors about the culture and history of the people of Hawaii. The road follows an ancient foot trail.

kicking out the totals and then honoring them

when driving by you don't see anything except the replica of the kings last resting place, the palace. what is sad is they we dethroned and now their remnants are respected. regardless, the drive is nice as the others said.

Beach-side scenic drive
Apr 2017 • Couples
When in Kona, you MUST make this drive. It follows the coast with lovely views of the port, the cruise ships docked offshore, many vacation properties and lovely plants and floral gardens. There are many restaurants along the route and several overlooks to stop and admire the views.

Nice walking location
Mar 2017 • Family
We stayed very close to the downtown where the royal footsteps are located. There are plenty of shopping stores, coffee shops, both low end and high end luxury resorts. If you come to Kona you will need to walk here.

Nice drive along the ocean
Feb 2016
If you go to Kona, you're probably going along this drive. Comfortable, informal combination of small, old, maybe ramshackle houses, with luxury mansions, luxury resorts, family beaches, local surfers, lots of rock walls that have been there, it looks like, longer than the town.

A town of smiling faces
Jan 2016 • Solo
Follow in the path of ancient royalty and begin a new adventure. As you stroll along this little shoreline road be greeted by all the smiling faces, see the boats scooting around in the bay, kids splashing around in the sandy beaches, little shops, and fancy restaurants. Farmers markets, and popsicle stands. Great tropical trees occupied by talkative chirping birds. People from all over the world. Local boys and their secret enterprises all still friendly and gay.

Free app provides incredible interpretive experience. Resources on Alii Drive Scenic Byway for historical and archaeological sites. Complete with photos and easy mapping plus an Ocean Recreation Guide with tips on swimming, surfing and snorkeling spots. Really makes the 7-mile drive come alive with stories you would never know otherwise. Highly recommend downloading the free app - Kona Royal Footsteps.
