Great place to swin with kids and family

The few beheads heading to north point had the best beaches for family swimming. Shallow water, few rocks, life guards, picnic areas with grills.

I don't want to encourage visitors to come to this beach, because I want it all to myself...beautiful beach, amazing water, great breezes...plenty of shade under palm trees if you are nursing a sun burn too...the drive is tedious on a very rough lava field road, but a treat awaits the brave travelers...close to the airport, 20 minutes from the... Kona Coast State Park is a long drive off of Mamalahoa Hwy to the beach but it is worth the effort. Lava and sand mix to create a shoreline of interest and beauty. Sometimes you will see turtles basking in the sun or swimming in the bay.

This park actually has three very different beaches. Which accounts for some if the variance in the reports. The 1st beach has a parking lot, facilities, course sand and tide pools and waves to watch. The 2nd beach is a 200 yard walk to the right, has ports parities, a long beautiful crescent beach with shade and swimming. Parking for... More

Very rough road - but a regular vehicle can make it. It was worth the trip when we saw the ocean! Magnificent view!

Uncrowded in January. The beach is at the site of the old Kona airport so there is LOTS of parking on what used to be the runway. VERY little shade but there are a couple of cabanas. The water is beautiful and warm and the waves are very small (ok for kids). Across the "parking lot" is a nice place... More

This is a very accessable beach from the Kona Coast Resort by driving along the Coastal Road. However, it is always quite crowded and getting a parking space is almost imporrible.

We have been here several times, lastly in 2013. Easily reached by bus from Kona there is a lovely beach shaded by tall trees and a beautiful safe depth swimming area. Lots of species of fish and a couple of giant turtles, don't touch them!. There are good restaurant s within yards. ulswimming area with safe depths.

We always make a visit or two or more to this beach park when we visit Hawaii almost yearly. We love it, my wife can fish ,I can find a shaded picnic table to sketch. We can beach comb, swim, or just relax.

This is one of the most beautiful places I have seen. It is a long hot drive through barren lava fields, but very worth it. It was cool and breezy in the shade. There were turtles swimming about. There were very few other people.
