This is the well preserved and lovely home of the former monarchy. It is in the heart of downtown Kailua-Kona on Alii Drive on the water. It has some of the furniture, clothing, household goods, military, diplomatic, and other items from the early years through the final years of the Hawaiian monarchy. It is well worth your time as it... More

I had a dream. I was experiencing the sunset with two Suns. The other sun is Mikhail Khodorkovski. In the museum there are fascinating things. Eg.: KAPA, the material that was made from the bark of the tree. There is a necklace made from the intricate braided hair with a sculpted tongue from the Orca tooth, which gave authority to... More

This is an excellent place to check out if you are interested in life at the turn of the century, Hawaii's royal family, or historic homes and architecture. Though the place is small it was quite empty when I came through and I was able to spend quite some time looking at everything and imagining life in the palace. Admission... More

This house was a neat piece of Hawaiian history to see. Walking barefoot through the home looking at the various pieces of antique furniture was a nice first stop on our Big Island adventure.

Hulihee Palace had many historical artifacts. You had to take off your shoes when you toured the place, but the floor wasn't cleaned because at the end of the tour the bottom of my feet became brown-colored and picked up sand and dirt. Luckily, I brought some antiseptic wipes with me which I used to wipe off the dirt. Yuck!

Lots of info on the history of the Hawaiian family, but for the size of the museum and the time needed to see all the exhibits, $10 seemed a little high.

A really interesting little museum. We learned a lot about the history of Hawaii especially regarding the Kamehameha family and its descendants. The furniture and artifacts are really impressive. The museum itself is run by the Daughters of Hawaii. Their knowledge of Hawaiian history and their ability to answer questions is impressive.

This palace is very beautiful. It is small but has a lot of history throughout. It was very nice to see how the royal family lived. Wonderful pictures of their native dress.

The "palace" is really more of a residence consisting of 6 rooms on two floors. There is much of the original royal regalia and furnishings. Be sure to take a guided tour (included in the admittance price) to better understand the history and significance of the artifacts and royal family.

HULIHE'E PALACE $10 admission. Self-guided. Small but historical. Old photos of grounds and Hawaiian Royalty make it come alive. Haloes not Hawaiians working the day I visited. When another guest asked about a guided tour--- told to wait ( guided was too busy texting-email).
