This granite formation does indeed look like a needle's eye. The area is just beautiful with different granite spires, trees, winding roads and tunnels. One can only imagine the amount and force of the water that must have been here so many years ago.

Needles eye is an amazing natural formation with gorgeous views all around. But what I HIGHLY recommend is the Needles Highway. So much to see in this beautiful part of our country.

There are many small attractions and sights along the SD 87 highway so it's worth a slow drive to take them all in.

Was on the scenic route and just happened to catch the sunset going through the eye. It was amazing. The eye is right before 1 of the tunnels so there can be some traffic, backup. As long as there are courteous drivers you should have...More

Take your time and enjoy this drive. It is amazing what construction can be done and it was done so long ago. Read up on the history to add enjoyment to the drive.
