Take the wildlife loop! It is well worth it. We saw a lot of nature and animals. We saw two buffalo play fighting - butting heads and burros. It's a nice drive and worth seeing the buffalo in their habitat.

When in the Black Hills be sure to take the Wildlife Loop Road in Custer State Park. Buffalo, longhorn sheep, antelope and burros are all easily visible on this drive. Stop at the new (2 years old) Visitor's Center across from the Game Lodge. They...More

Make sure you stop at the Wildlife Visitor Center to ask where the bison herd is located at the time you are looking. They have the information and will save time driving around. Begging burros are great, mountain goats are hard to find but bison...More

Saw a big herd of bison but precious little else. Indeed, I don’t think there is much else that you can’t easily see elsewhere. Scenery is pleasant enough. It’s OK but not remotely comparable with Yellowstone. Do not on any account do what some ignorant...More

Wildlife Loop Road covers a large area in Custer State Park, Wyoming. The park is home to a number of large wild animals. We saw a herd of bison grazing near the road as well as individual bison. We saw antelopes and "wild" donkeys that...More

Be sure to bring treats for the wild donkeys - they love carrots. This is a short excursion but enjoyable. Did not see a lot of wildlife, but the "wild" donkeys are actually quite friendly.

Huge bison herds, bighorn, elk, eagles and hawks, prairie dogs, pronghorn antelope, like Yellowstone was decades ago.

I don’t know where they’re at today, but we went on the loop during a light drizzle and saw plenty of animals. I don’t think it was any better or worse for viewing animals than the sunny day we went except for the rain... More

You will definitely see more animals in the earlier morning or closer to sunset, though there will be animals any time of the day

Sad to report the 9 burro's were burned, some badly but were under vet's care. Instinctively, the wilder animals took to the woods and the approximate 860 bison made out ok, and the antelope are returning since the 12/14... More
