The first time we just saw buffalo. Nice that you can stop your vehicle and take pictures and they are really close to you. You might even have to stop as one may be crossing the road. We had time on our vaction to do...More

Wildlife Loop Road travels through 18 miles of open grasslands and pine-speckled hills that much of the park’s wildlife calls home. Depending on the day, you might see bison, pronghorn, whitetail and mule deer, elk, coyotes, burros, prairie dogs, eagles, hawks, and a variety of...More

We were new to this loop, so didn't want to be stuck out there in the dark, so we went out about 5:00pm in late June. We did see some wildlife, but after we left the loop and were driving back to Rapid City, we...More

This is a great wildlife viewing experience. We saw bison, prairie dogs, deer, etc. It's a natural area, so the wildlife roams free.

Great views of bison, bighorn sheep , antelope , white tail and mule deer. Even a coyote. Early in the day best for viewing.

We were most pleasantly surprised and pleased with this location, the Bison appeared very much at home in this rolling hills habitat, with plenty of viewing locations along its length, an absolute bonus after our visit to Mount Rushmore.

A very large drive-thru park with plenty of opportunities to view beautiful scenery and wildlife. Saw two herds of buffalo (unfortunately they were somewhat far from the road) and several large bulls closer up. Prairie Dogs and antelope were in abundance this day too.

We visited just days after the annual buffalo round up so we missed that excitement but we got to see park employees :processing" the animals for return to the park or sale. Quite an experience to watch the experienced employees herd one animal at a...More

Really enjoyed our drive. We were able to see two separate herds of buffalo which was a great surprise. In October there were not a lot of car so you can take great pictures.

The loop road is a great place to see animals. We were lucky on the day we visited. It had snowed the day prior, so we were able to easily spot a red fox, many prairie dogs, deer, bison and prong horned antelope, as well...More

I don’t know where they’re at today, but we went on the loop during a light drizzle and saw plenty of animals. I don’t think it was any better or worse for viewing animals than the sunny day we went except for the rain... More

You will definitely see more animals in the earlier morning or closer to sunset, though there will be animals any time of the day

Sad to report the 9 burro's were burned, some badly but were under vet's care. Instinctively, the wilder animals took to the woods and the approximate 860 bison made out ok, and the antelope are returning since the 12/14... More
