My friends and I were in town for a week of volunteer work and were considering either a St. Louis Cathedral jazz concert or the Iguanas at the Circle Bar. We were all pretty hungry and tired after the day's work but after a hot shower and dinner, gamely went out to Circle Bar - it was closer to our... More

We have passed this purple painted funky lair many times. Decided to stop in in the late afternoon on the weekend. Nice young lady tending bar, but other than having a cheap tap beer and wondering at the interior it isn't an attraction for older tourists unless very young at heart....no food offered - perhaps for the best (: We... Paraphrasing "Stefon" (Bill Heider) of SNL: "The NOLA's hottest club is Circle Bar: They have cross-dressing punks, DJ who plays noise, and a guy in boxer-briefs rolling on a parachute, wearing a helmet with blinking lights." Anyway, this all happened and more. Great atmosphere and welcoming spirit. Gathering place for counter-cultural creative types who were very tolerant of boring guys... More

So this was basically an old house turned into a bar which is kind of a neat idea. However, there was very little seating and they tried to squeeze a stage in there as well for people to perform. The beer selection was also a little lacking.

Great place to see small, intimate performances by all styles of funky bands . Conveniently located on Lee Circle. Happy hour is excellent value, very friendly. A gathering place for costumed revellers during Mardi Gras. Friendly bar staff and locals made me feel very welcome as an older lady on my own.

Excellent bands with lots of ambition but not much of a following start out at this bar in an old house on Lee Circle. The alcove the band sets up in and plays in is really tiny. Friendly service and patrons. Bands can be hit or miss but be patient

Great bar with live music and very nice people. The prices are not that high so you can drink till you drop. 1.2 ml walking from the canal street.

I went here with some friends as we were just passing buy, the place was almost empty but the bar tender was friendly and the jukebox was amazing so we decided to stay long after everyone else in the bar had moved on. Beers were cheap and soon enough we were dancing, drinking and laughing until the small hours of... More

Great bar with a lot of character! Great happy hour prices as well! And live music!! Definitely stop in here! We decided to stop in here because of a coupon we had gotten, and it was a great find! It is in this great old building that you can tell has a ton of history behind it. Ask the bartenders... More

Title says it all, they have a great happy hour and live bands every night at this easily overlooked dark structure off Lee Circle. I was told by the friendly bartender that the house was built in the 1880s by Dr. Elizabeth Cohen, the first female general practitioner doctor in New Orleans. Her practice was on the first floor, and... More

Staying in Arts District / Warehouse District

Neighbourhood Profile
Arts District / Warehouse District
Once a thriving industrial zone, today this district is home to a buzzing arts scene with an amazing assortment of galleries, boutiques, and studios having moved in and set up shop throughout the disused warehouses for which the area is so well known. Much of the art you'll come across here is local in scope, ownership and inspiration. However, among the many old brick warehouses are modern structures of steel and glass housing large-scale cultural institutions of national prominence such as the National World War II Museum, the Contemporary Arts Center, and the Ogden Museum of Southern Art. Just as eye catching as what’s on view inside the galleries and museums is the chance to see your ship come in at the Julia Street Cruise Terminal, which serves as a wistful reminder of the city’s historic maritime prominence.
