This small museum near the French Quarter probably won't make many tourists' itineraries, but it gives some great facts that you don't normally think of when you think about Louisiana history. There was a bit of an immigration boom from Sicily when the slaves were freed. These Italians worked on the plantations for cheap. They also saved their money to open up many of the businesses around the city and played a role in the development of jazz music. The museum is $8 and I received a quick tour from one of the friendly employees at the center. The center also does many events and offers language classes as well. This is a really nice niche museum I would suggest to locals and to tourists with an interest in Italian history in the region. I would give it a 4, but it is still a smaller specialty museum. It's a great way to learn more about the history of New Orleans. It's not a huge museum, but very well presented and informative. You could tell our guide (he was Italian) was very enthusiastic about the museum. Great location--on street parking.

Being an Italian-American this cultural center was in my list when we visited NOLA. It did not disappoint. Our tour guide was very knowledgeable and answered all questions with a smile. It was neat to see the Jazzisti Americani Italians Famosi wall of artists walking in the door. A neat gem found in this beautiful city. …

KInda of a cool Museum but really not so much to see.. definitely not a must see but if your italian American and in that area.. take it in.. otherwise dont make the drive

This small museum inside the Italian American Cultural Center is a little gem well worth seeking out. It provides an excellent insight into the contributions of the Italian immigrants to the development of New Orleans. The young woman who was our guide was knowledgeable and made an important contribution to understanding the exhibits.…
