Treat yourself and go to St Augustine to learn about this extremely important church. And, if you are in town on a Sunday by all means go to their jazz mass. Wow - an experience you will always remember. Gorgeous and so moving.

I went to visit the Tomb of the Unknown Slave located right outside the Church. It is a very sobering memorial and worth a visit.

I bumped into this church just walking the streets one day. I noticed a cross made of anchor chain. As I looked closer, it was adorned with shackles to represent the chains worn by slaves travelling across the seas. The area by the cross is...More

We had stopped by this church and heard it, and the surrounding neighborhood's history which was interesting to say the least. The service is 2 hours, and comes highly recommended with the service the first hour and choir for the 2nd.

Great way to finish off a trip to New Orleans. Went to Sunday mass with the friendliest outgoing congregation. Don’t have to be Catholic to enjoy the service. More singing, clapping and holding hands than any mass I have ever been too. Try to show...More

This beautiful church was built in 1841 by free people of color and from that time to the present has served as a spiritual home and beacon of hope in the historic neighborhood of Treme. All are welcome. There are several mass times, the regular...More

Or maybe not so quiet in my particular experience! It was a hot afternoon at the Treme Fall Festival, and the church with open windows provided the perfect retreat from the heat, whilst still permitting the sounds of the jazz performers on stage to be...More
