Racontours, New Orleans is a walking tour company dedicated to sharing stories in an immersive Southern experience. Our tours are for story lovers and history buffs alike whose curiosity goes beyond mere linear dates and facts. While we offer 2 tours, we can only provide 1 tour a day on a first come first served basis. Reservations must be made with a minimum 24 hours advance notice. Our Garden District tour is a 6 hour experience that includes a 4 course lunch at the world renowned Commanders Palace! Our Voodoo tour is a 4-5 hour experience which takes place in the French Quarter. It is a fun and touching examination of how this often misunderstood ancient African faith evolved with the residents of the Vieux Carre, into what is now known as New Orleans Voodoo. Each walking tour concludes in an above ground cemetery. Join Racontours and discover the passions, loves, deceits and betrayals, that took place in our garden, below the sea. Thank you for your interest..and get ready to slow your roll!

We recently did the Garden District tour and it was fabulous. Tree is amazingly knowledgeable. We were curious about some of the details he gave and everything he said was 100% correct. We peppered him with questions and he had thoughtful answers to everything. Tree was able to customize the tour during our walk to highlight things of interest to... More

Our fourth tour with Tree and we continue to learn new things about New Orleans and its history and culture. No matter what the subject, Tree has an amazing depth of information and he presents it with enthusiasm and energy. His tours are the best attraction in the city. I don't normally do reviews, and this is my second for... More

Tree is AMAZING! I'm a teacher, my husband is a professor/MD- we LOVE learning new things and Tree definitely brought the knowledge, and then some! He is a master storyteller who will capture your attention from the moment he greets you. I've taken at least 4 Garden District tours over the years, and his was the best by far- and... More

If you are looking for an unusual tour experience, you can't go wrong with the Hotel History Tour. But, be prepared! Tree provides a background and detailed perspective on not only the basic history of a few hotels, but also reveals some info that would easily pass you by. He delves into details that illustrate the dark side of this... More

Had an amazing day with Tree. Amazing. He gave an in-depth tour of the Garden District that was also a detailed overview of the history of NOLA. Wonderful spirit. Great energy. A beautiful lunch at Commander's Palace with an insider's look at the restaurant. Felt like Tree tailored the tour for us. Don't go to New Orleans without taking one... More

Tree is the name of the owner/operator/"Chef" of Racontours, and he's very knowledgeable about the city, culture and even the minutiae of all-things New Orleans. My friend and I did the Garden District tour, which will have you navigating about a four-block area, includes a stop in one of the cemeteries and ends with a FABULOUS lunch at Commander's Palace.... Tree was our story teller and guide on our walking tour around the Garden District Tour followed by superb gourmet lunch at the iconic Commander's Palace, followed by a tour of that establishment, including the kitchens and wine cellar. Tree was fascinating, funny, insightful, and enormously knowledgeable about the true stories behind the places he was showing us. A +++

Staying in Garden District

Neighbourhood Profile
Garden District
Head to the Garden District for the full-on New Orleans experience replete with quaintly clanking streetcars, proudly grandiose antebellum mansions, picture perfect avenues lined with live oaks loaded down with Spanish moss, and a wealth of beautiful churches and many more architectural marvels. Even a brief excursion here makes plain why it’s called the Garden District. So, when you visit be sure to give yourself ample time for admiration at a languidly slow pace befitting such gentile strand of riverside living and to allow you to maximize each opportunity to stop and smell the roses – and whichever other blooms you might come across. While taking it all in, you’d do well to dine at one of the city’s most beloved destinations for regional cuisine. Gourmands from far and wide (and right round the corner) swear the age-old Commander’s Palace is the best restaurant in town – and have been doing so since it opened back in 1880.
