A National Historic Landmark, Old St. Patrick's Church is one of only two early landmarks of distinction left in Lafayette Square, the other being Gallier Hall. Irish immigrants built the Gothic-style church in 1840 to rival the French St. Louis Cathedral in Jackson Square.

It's been 50 years since I've been to a Latin Mass and it was great. The architecture, traditional rear facing altar, communion rails used during the service ... all great memories. The parishioners are incredibly fortunate to have priests that keep the tradition alive.

We were walking to the WWII museum from The French Quarter on St. Charles st and saw this little gem and decided to come in. We were in luck! It's a beautiful quaint little church with an awesome organ. Would recommend stoping in if you're walking by.

Weekly morning mass is short and to the point. The inside of this church is amazingly beautiful. So is the outside. I felt very welcome.

If you're into old churches, this one is worth a walk by just to see it's beauty. They've kept it up pretty well and it looks great.

This is a beautiful church and a quick stop in for a glimpse is well worth. The Windows, paintings, close look at the altar but to really appreciate make sure you pick up a brochure to understand the significance of this church and Irish heritage versus the Cathedral and the French.

I enjoyed this Church more than St Louis Cathedral. So much to see - the altar, the organ, the doors, the stain glass windows above the altar, ... , just everywhere you look. Definitely worth coming to see this. It is not too far from the Ogden & the WW2 Museums.

The church is a great example of church art and construction in the late 19th century. The stained glass windows take a while to view and the high ceilings were neat to view. If one is a church history buff, take the time to visit this church.

We sure love our churches in New Orleans. This particular church is my favorite to go for holidays and feast days. When they have their Christmas concert, go. Fantastic.

Staying in Central Business District

Neighbourhood Profile
Central Business District
Compared to the more evocative monikers of some other parts of New Orleans, the downtown’s humdrum title might suggest that this area is all about business and little else. But don’t let the bland name keep you away from the Central Business District. The CBD offers a wide range of fun things to do that would be touted as exceptional in less jubilant corners of the world. Bordered by the French Quarter, the Arts District and Tremé, with the river at its eastern extreme, this hub for sports, gaming, shopping, theatre, family-friendly activities, and amazing regional cuisine makes a smart base wherever your interests lie.
