We went to the Algiers Folk Art "Festival" which was in the back of the museum. There were probably 50 people there, the food was OK, and the music was good, but the "patio" in the back was all in shade so it was pretty chilly. People were selling their folk art and some of it was pretty good but too big for a suitcase. Did buy some earrings. The museum itself is worth a 15-20 minute look; some of the art was quite good. Appreciated that they are supporting local artists.…

I had a wonderful visit with artist Charles Gillam at this Algiers Point Destination. Charles is incredibly personable and filled with stories about the Blues greats and also about fellow artists and New Orleans history. Most of his art is for sale and incredibly affordable although you can visit the museum with or without purchasing. A taxi/LYFT ride from the heart of the French Quarter is only like $6 and completely worth a trip. Pure Magic for Folk Art Lovers!…

Charles Gilliam, a wonderful artist and proprietor/curator of the museum gave us a tour. The museum is filled with carvings and sculptures made by Charles and other artists. He is a great story teller willing to share his experiences as artist and curator. The museum is worth the short trip (15 mins) outside of downtown/ French Quarter. Charles suggested that walk along the levy on my way to the ferry. The walk and the ferry ride were fun. The river is powerful. Seeing the city from across the river gave me a wonderful sense of where I was.…
