I went with two musicians,a clarinettist and a violinist, so there was an added purpose for our visit. Unfortunately it was the run up to Mardi Gras and the Rock and Roll running Marathon was on that day, hence lots of road closures. The taxi got as near as he could and we walked the rest of the way. There was a hiccup over the arrangements to visit but Al made us feel welcome, and told us all about the beginnings of jazz, and then through the ages, complete with audio music of the ages he was talking about. Worth dragging yourself out of the usual New Orleans French Quarter troll to understand what you are dancing too!…

What makes it special, though, is Mr. Al's storytelling, and his deep knowledge of and connection to the music. We left feeling as though we had traveled through time and around the world, even though the entire experience was contained within a single room. A highlight of our trip -- highly recommended!…
