I walked over to the cemetary not knowing you must book a tour guide. When I got there, Ms. Denise Augustine was getting a group together outside the cemetary and had a flair, sass, and love to her voice and spirit that I was drawn in. She pointed at me and said, "You joinin us dear?" and boom, she got me. The tour was informative, and Ms. Augustine is the REAL DEAL Creole woman. The knowledge that was shared, the real talk that was had, and her animated, in your face, yet with love personality was more than I can ever describe and be thankful for. If you're looking for an experience, not just a tour, then book with Ms. Denise Augustine. She is a memorable individual that highlighted my experience of NOLA. We had the amazing opportunity to enjoy Denise's expertise and enthusiasm. She was there early and as soon as we arrived she began our tour. She not only shared her stories but provided the "heartbeat" of New Orleans by sharing the music of those musicians and singers she's telling about. She even taught us to second line through Louis Armstrong Park! She's an authentic, bold, and passionate tour guide who sincerely wants to share the history of this area. If you want to "know" New Orleans, then this tour is a MUST! I would highly encourage anyone even thinking about this tour to book it. Book it, immediately. Ms. Denise Augustine is an amazing soul and she shares that with you on her Sacred Stories tour. I was lucky enough to tour with her one on one. She made me laugh, she made me dance and she answered my questions and gave me insight into a world I know little about. Her stories painted pictures of New Orleans history that made you feel it. NO REGRETS: When we had heard that St. Louis #1 was now $20 a pop, we almost turned away. Boy am I glad that we didn’t. Not only did we get an incredible history tour of New Orleans, voodoo, and civil rights, but we also were laughing our butts off in the process! Denise Augustine was our tour guide, and if you can take her tour, make sure to request it. She is a self-proclaimed raconteur, and she has earned the title for sure. Every bit of history was filled with morbid-humor, and the kinds of facts that only a true native New Orleans member would know.
