Beautiful lighting at night

Walked by here at night. There was a lot of construction by here so wear some sneakers. I understand you can walk your dogs here as well but I would check for the signs to be sure.

I'm not sure if "Funky Butt" used to be a restaurant or club, but I'm writing about the public park. An easy walk from the French Quarter, be sure to go on a Sunday afternoon 3pmish to 5pm to join in on the drumcircle led by the Congo square preservation society....it makes the park come alive! If you like cultural... More

Located in Louis Armstrong Park, Congo Square was the meeting place where the Africans perform, and where performances are still being held. However, nothing was going on when we were there but we were able to read the plaque and learn about its history. This attraction will definitely disappoint without a performance.

Maybe we arrived at the wrong tome but this square situated in Armstrong park was very empty and honestly boring. There was a plaque of "Congo square" and that was just about it... don't go out of your way...

The square is situated in the Louis Armstrong Park on the edge of the French Quarter. An easy walk from anywhere in the Quarter. As we got closer to the park, we started hearing the drums and people cheering and singing. At the park, there was a circle of drummers and about 40-50 people listening, clapping and dancing (see pictures).... More

This was our "must-do" event of our first day in NOLA. Did not disappoint! We heard to drum-rhythms from approximately 1/2 mile away. We were already "shufflin'" by the time we made visual-contact with the "drum-corps". We had a glorious day in which to celebrate the history and significance that is Congo Square. It won't "knock your socks off" with... More

I was wondering again and came upon this. This was really 3 sites in 1. You have Mahalia Jackson theater and Congo Square all located here. There are some very nice statues in this area. They had a concert in this park while I was there. This is just a nice place to sit down relax and enjoy the scenery,... More

This was a great spot for live, local and authentic jazz, a true New Orleans classic!

This was such an awesome place and was hoping with some relief money or musicians fund that it would get a second chance. Unfortunately, Katrina had other things on her mind!

Do you love authentic, great jazz music? Are you semi-adventurous? Then the Funky Butt is worth it. The first room is a small bar where all the walls are black and you'll wonder what you got yourself into. But then you move to the next room and man are you glad you came! Seriously, it's not dangerous but it's where... More

Staying in French Quarter

Neighbourhood Profile
French Quarter
A small and teeming network of laissez-faire living lounged out on the balmy banks of the Mighty Mississippi, the French Quarter has long been a port of call for folks in search of a good time and a great story. Perpetually inebriated Bourbon Street runs across its midriff like a strand of cheap ribbon tied around an otherwise rather pretty and impressively well-kept vintage dress. Throughout the rest of the Quarter, brightly colored Victorian homes and businesses, famously done up with wrought-iron features, provide a distinct and immediately recognizable backdrop for all varieties of fun. At any given moment in this historic riverside setting, some of America’s finest meals are being cooked, most potent cocktails are being mixed, and most engaging music is being performed.
