This was my 2nd time attending the Essence Festival. I had previously attended in 2009. The two experiences were like night and day. The festival this year seemed to be plagued with numerous challenges: It was very disorganized. Poor and inaccurate marketing (such as advertising "after hours"/after the main concert events)which were actually happening at the same time as the concerts on the main stage. There was an additional cost for the after-hours events so many people lost money because they were unable to attend both events. Poorly maintained APP. The APP was constantly being pushed. Once downloaded, the information presented was not accurate. Events would disappear and then suddenly reappear. It was very hard to get a clear schedule of events with the constant changes. The entertainment line-up was sub-par compared to previous years. A couple of big-name artists' were there, but not like in the past. Why not segment the entertainment? For instance Friday night, Hip Hop, Saturday night, modern-day R&B, and Sunday night, old school R&B??? Too many commercials and during the concert. I understand that sponsors have to be recognized, but there is a more tasteful way of doing so. Concert attendees should not have to sit through a barrage of repetitive commercial breaks. I love New Orleans, but I won't be attending this event again.…
