The majestic Roman Renaissance-style State Capitol has the only granite dome in the U.S. and inside has over 40 different types of stone from around the world as well as murals and handmade furniture. The observation deck, open in the summer, offers views of the city and surrounding lakes. Capitol Square plays host to state events throughout the year including Farmers Markets and Folk Festivals.

You can easily walk around it to find its many faces. I found a 3D map of the State Capitol in front of it. It is nice to see the building during the night when it is beautifully lit up.

The Wisconsin Capitol is very lovely and kept up so well. All of the marble and wood were shiny clean. We didn't have a chance to go on the tour, but enjoyed walking around. Be sure to read the story of Ol' Abe, the eagle...More

The dome is simply stunning after years of restoration. Tours run daily and include many interesting facts about Wisconsin history and legislature. The sweeping steps into the capitol make a nice spot for lunch as well.

Lay on the floor under the beautiful dome with your loved ones. Your kids will never forget it. Wander around the beautiful stair cases. A perfect spot to spend a 1/2 hour

Actually, the tree is dragged (!) inside the Monday after Thanksgiving. It takes a few days to decorate it, and the official lighting ceremony is that Friday, this year, Dec. 1. (I've worked there for 16 years.)
