This rating has nothing to do with the quality of the golf course or clubhouse. It's really about the experience, the value, and the surrounding community. The course itself is in many places a manicured pasture. Greens are bumpy and velcro slow. But where else can you play alongside an active volcano in year-round cool spring-like weather in Hawaii? If... More

We played the course mainly to say, we played golf on the side of an active volcano. The course is located at 4100 ft so, it's a bit cool up there. The course gets a lot of rain from Nov. to April and that's the reason for the conditions. Fairways are decent, greens are a patchwork of different grasses and... More

If you are looking for one of those extremely manicured courses, this is not that course. What is VG&CC? It is a friendly course/clubhouse, that allows you to enjoy not only the golf but also the experience/views of playing golf in Hawaii. We played on a day that although the winds were blowing, there was enough tree cover to effect... More

My husband and I started off our day in the Volcano area golfing here. We are really laid back people who live in a small mountain town and have a small local no-fuss golf course we are members of in Colorado. This place was like a Hawaiian version of our home course. There are some challenging holes, which was great,... More

First of all if you're looking for a well kept manicured golf course, you better look elsewhere. The greens are beat up and the whole place looks a bit shaggy. Now if you want a fun experience at around 73 degrees or so, this is the place. Very comfortable temperature to play in and at least in the morning good... More

We played this Volcano Golf Course (at 4,000-feet elevation) just outside the Volcano National Park after playing on the same day at the southern-most course (in the U.S.) at Sea Mountain Golf Course (30 miles south near Punaluu black sand beach). While the green fees were about the same (a value), and you get what you pay for at Sea... More

This is really the only place between Naalehu and Hilo to play. It's close to the volcano but it is, in reality, a parkland layout. Interesting and playable but...and it's a biggie...the fairways were chewed and a swamp! We had to drive around most areas that had been dug up by carts and neglected. Bunkers were overgrown with weeds and... More

Played June 13 2015. Arrived Saturday 9AM, parking lot empty, and they let me jump right up. I was off cruise ship Oceania Insignia, and they let me play 18+cart+rental clubs all for $75. Locals pay $25 for this course. People were excellent!. 1 other group on the front nine, I played alone which was fine since I have not... More

We wanted to play here so we could tell people we golfed on an active volcano. Drove 2 hours (we were staying in Kona) and enjoyed ourselves thoroughly! The weather was misty and cool, the temperature on,y getting up to 64 degrees. The course was in great shape and I loved the nene (geese) who live on the course! Our... More
