President Harry S Truman took America from its traditional isolationism into the age of international involvement. Despite his power, he never forgot where he came from. Today, visitors can experience the surroundings Truman knew as a young man of modest ambition through his political career and final years as a former president.

We visited the Truman home on a sunny fall day. The home is filled with interesting items that tell the story of Bess and Harry's life in Independence, Missouri. The home, build by Bess' father, is actually a very impressive home that is over 8,000...More

We always enjoy going to see the homes of our past presidents, and see how they lived. The home was very modest, the park ranger was very enlightening.

The house is simple and practical. Tour guide was very knowledgeable. House is just as it was when Bess died. Pictures are not allowed inside. Some famous people sat in the living room.

Home exactly as it was when Bess died (10 years after Harry). Many, many family artifacts down to Harry's hat, cane, and overcoat hanging on pegs in the hall. Good talk by docent explaining life after the presidency

Very interesting to see how a former president lived. Just like his legacy, he was very modest but formal. He wore a suit to take his daily walk around Independence. I remember seeing him at the supermarket when I was a child. He greeted everyone...More

Very interesting tour of Truman's home. The tour guide was extremely knowledgeable about the home and Truman. We learned quite a bit about the man just by touring the home and listening to the guide. Well worth the visit.

We visited the Truman Home in Independence last weekend. It was very interesting to see how past presidents lived an average lifestyle when they left office. It is very different from now!! Our tour guide was great with many awesome stories!
