Gilbert Whitney is actually my favorite store on the Independence Square. Lots of little knickknacks and home goods that are unique and it's a great shopping for presents. There are a few items here that I've never seen before, so it's the kind of store you have to wander through and see what they have to offer. They also have... More

If you visit the Independence Square in late spring through summer on Saturday's, you can visit the mid-1800's. There are free basic rides and paid for tour rides on wagons available as well as characters in 1800's clothing walking about the square. Learn about the beginning of Independence, before Truman - where the westward expansion started. There's more to Independence.

This is such a cute little downtown area. I love the store called Be Here Now. We also ate at Café Verona, which was delicious and went to the movies. Can't wait to go back and visit the other stores and restaurants!

If you are going to or through Kansas City you need to stop at Independence Mo. and visit President Harry S. Truman"s home town. There is a lot of interesting history to see fun for the whole family. And it's not far off the main highway I-70.

Downtown Independence is a great place to visit for shopping, restaurants, sight seeing, and entertainment. There are antique stores, boutique shops, an upscale restaurant, coffee shop, tasty pizza shop, yogurt, soda shop, and more. If you're up for seeing a movie, you can watch first run movies, or take a short walk just a block away to try your skill... More

Independence is my hometown but I moved away 15 years ago. At that time the downtown area was looking decrepit. I went back over the summer when Pokemon go was released to see what kind of poke stops were around. I was very impressed with the amount of businesses and variety of shops. If you want it the Square has... More

Independence MO Square is a classic Midwest Town Square with a number of specialty shops all the way around not just the Square itself, but for at least another block in each direction. Restaurants, Antiques, and even modern day table top gaming (with a classic game arcade in the back even) are all present around the Square. It is very... More

Worth a drive by to see the statue and the building facade. Not sure if worth parking and going inside courthouse. Small shops and eateries around the area
