- DJCSunshine Coast, Australia6 contributionsLegian BeachStayed in legian, never tried seminyak or kuta (for comparison) Positives: Beer is about $3 a bottle at most shacks which is perfect for having a few watching the sunset. Some nice bars and restaurants with lovely ambience at the beachside hotels which anyone can use, 2for1 cocktails at $12-$14 (very nice too) and your standard cheap Bintang beer for $3 or $5 for a tall bottle. Meals range from $8 for a beer/pizza or $16 for example duck, steak or lamb. Staff are usually incredibly friendly at hotels and don’t tend to try and rip you off. Negatives: Beaches are lined with rubbish, went surfing, $5 for 2 surfboards although they will try and charge you $10(1 hour) had a few plastic bags wrap around my arms and legs while surfing for 30 minutes. Beds cost around $5 each to hire with an umbrella, or as usual they will try and charge you more. Be prepared to be approached every 3 minutes by people trying to sell you bracelets, sunglasses, hats, watches ect. Good: cheap beer, nice sunsets Bad: overcharging, dirty beach/ocean, struggle to relax due to beach sellers Tiger Itchy Bum Bar👌Visited January 2020Travelled with familyWritten 4 January 2020
- Off their PManchester, United Kingdom4,120 contributionsLots going for itOur hotel was just across the road from this lovely beach and we spent lots of time on it. It has something for everyone and every time you go there you see something different. In the daytime it is great for long walks, watersports and sunbathing. Loungers are available to rent for not much money along with umbrellas. It is lined by small shops and some really good cheap restaurants selling local food. Most of the time the sea is quite calm and very safe but it can get choppy. When this happens, lots of debris is washed up which is a real shame and it’s a pity people don’t take more care of it.Visited February 2020Travelled as a coupleWritten 9 February 2020
- Ellen PJakarta, Indonesia428 contributionsGreat place for new year countdownWent here on the late afternoon of the last day of 2019 & come back again in the late evening on that day. In the afternoon, the beach was already quite crowded, but we still can walk on the white sand beach to wait for the sunset. In the late evening, it get even more crowded, with lots of fire works. It was truly a happening place for the new year countdown. We all enjoyed our time hereVisited January 2020Travelled with familyWritten 1 January 2020

Legian beach, sitting by the beach ⛱️ without being hassled to buy stuff from hawkers, it's not my cup-a-tea. I didn't enjoy my time there. I wish there is a law, like respecting "No thank you". It's hard work buying stuff if u don't bargain, you get ripped off, if you bargain, never ending backwards and forwards. It's quite tiring.

The beach itself is great with lots of beach bars, street vendors and nice long boardwalk, nice long beach walks to Kuta or Seminyak.
However the conditions last week were quite poor. Enormous amounts of garbage, smelly brown water spots (no idea what that stuff is) and no swimming allowed for the entire week. Not that the water was particularly enticing in the first place.
It's really sad to see that such a wonderful natural resource has been run down to such pitiful state. We will not return there unless this gets better.

Legian beach is a fantastic little beach if you are staying in the Kuta area
Late afternoon/Early evenings are the best time to go to sit and have a drink and watch the sunset
Free beanbags to sit on, drinks if you want them and food too. But we walked up to the road and got corn cobs

It feels unfair really giving this beach or less than glowing review, but it’s not great at the moment I’m afraid. One of the surf instructors told me they have a new government department just for the beaches and there is loads of work going on.
Tractors are cleaning up so much detritus it is unbelievable. They work every day yet it still doesn’t look great.
Since we were last here, parts of the sea are smelly and brown water as well which isn’t inspiring.
A real plus though is the new boardwalk that goes on for miles. This is excellent for exercise, and of course you’ve got the beach beer people when the sunset is on. They are fantastic.

It's a very very dirty beach. There is way too much rubbish there from the sand to the water. There are lots of sellers there but are very cheap. Some lifeguards there but nothing much. Nice to have a swim there while watching the sun set. :D

Cleaner the most other beach’s.
The brothers bar was very kind and honest and located right across from our hotel.
Cold beers at $3 each and all day board rental at $5.
They would also mind our belongings and keep an eye on our kids whilst surfing

The beach seems to be going through a bit of a an upgrade which is all well and good but i found it not as nice as Seminyak beach in the evening with the lights and various bars plying music the beach itself was rather bland and lacking atmosphere with just beanbags scattered and various people selling alcohol sorry to say just not for me but others might enjoy.

I have been around the world and have seen many great beaches, I have also seen some disappointing ones. I have never, however, seen one as terrible as this beach. It is covered with tons of washed up garbage... wrappers of all sorts, plastic bottles, empty packaging, cardboard, thousands of plastic glasses, drinking straws, cigarette packages... what a mess. An attempt has been mad in a few small areas to rake up some of the refuse and this has resulted in huge piles of garbage which I hope will be removed and not just washed back when it rains.
Its too bad, because it is, otherwise, a large beach with a lot of potential - even with the thousands of loungers and beach umbrellas that line it. If you are looking for clean beaches and less people - go to Nusa.

We went to a beach front bar to watch the sunset. A must do when in Bali. Lots of tourists but didn’t seem too busy.

We found Legian Beach quieter - outside the Pullman Hotel. Nice place to sip Bintangs and Smirmoffs and the world go by.

Looking to have a bit of a party on the beach for a combined 60th. Is this possible?

Yes. Plenty of places either on the beach or just behind would bite your arm off to help you celebrate. SKAI Beach Club at Padma Legian would make a good venue.
I stayed in Canggu (Nelayan Beach) back in October and loved it. There was a stand there with $5 surf lessons. Are $5 surf lessons in legian beach too?

There will be one of the locals willing to show you how to surf at any of the surf board rentals, negotiate a price directly with them.

If you can stand humid rainy very hot. Then go for it. It will be packed as probably school hols in Australia & lots of people away over there for celebrations. Goodluck. Enjoy the magic of Bali. Just be sensible.

December is monsoon season but it will still be very hot. I travelled over cgristmas and new year and it was hot and it rained randomly. The rain doesnt always last for a long time anyway so you can still enjoy. Have fun

In order to lounge and sunbathe on the beach, is it required to rent a chair? Or can you just throw a towel down on the sand?

Agree with previous person and with the heavy hawking, as soon as you talk to 1, you will have a million. So either say no and mean no or........Number 32 (older lady) gave my wife the greatest neck/back massage she recons she ever had!!!!

I want to ask a question that will help all traveler in trip adviser.
How do you negotiate a price in the beach for services, and how much is considered an expensive item or service.
Dan L
Bunbury, Australia7,266 contributions
Depends on the service or item.
My wife and I generally spend the first 2 - 3 days relaxing and browsing for a few hours each day to see what is available, and what, if anything, that we want. We check a sample of markets and fixed price shops if we intend to purchase something. From past experience and after 14 trips to Bali, we have only ever purchased 1 item from a beach vendor; in Lovina in 1995. We find better prices and better quality in the markets and shops without the 'in your face hassle' of beach vendors. we do not have beach massages any more as the other vendors refuse to stay away and are a pain.
That said, beach massages, pedicures, manicures, braiding, etc are similar in price to the standard massage outlets.
If you want to purchase other items on the beach, do your homework first, hone your bargaining skills, ensure items are in working order, not torn, correctly sized, etc.
If you live in Surabaya, you should know the rules - CAVEAT EMPTOR - let the buyer beware.
Have fun.

hello - I just want to ask if there is a place along the beach where you can sit and enjoy the sunset? Also is it possible to swim in the ocean?
Thanks

Bargara, Australia124 contributions
Vince there are plenty of beach bars on the beach to take in the sunset or a number of restaurants with more expensive drinks. The beach has life savers but remember to swim between the flags as the surf can be very dangerous.
