Interesting house with a lot of history. Enjoyed seeing the original family artifacts that returned home—even a lovely music box. The tour guide was awesome and made the house really come alive. Fun features included showing how the casement windows and shutters and cupola functioned....More

Once home to John Motley Morehead, one of North Carolina’s best known and most accomplished governors, Blandwood Mansion is also recognized as the prototype for the Italian Tuscan Villa style of architecture popularized in America during the mid-nineteenth century. John Motley Morehead was a leading...More

Home of North Carolina Governor Morehead, this homestead is chock-full of interesting and, substantially, original Morehead furnishings. Our docent was extremely well-versed on the family, furnishings, building, and era and was a great story-teller. At $7 for a senior admission, it was a bargain for...More

This is a 'small' house built in three stages from the late 1700s to mid 1800s. Our docent, Matt, was incredibly knowledgeable about the house its occupants and the role it played in North Carolinian history. It's not handicapped accessible as one would expect. An...More

We enjoyed seeing this old mansion and were surprised at the smart use of mirrors to increase the interior light of its rooms. My sister-in-law and I especially liked the old 1851 sewing machine.

The house itself is really nice, especially the Italianate addition. I had trouble getting there with my GPS but after I made a wrong turn, I found the house right in front of me. As with many of these tours, the guides probably spend a...More

We were fortunate enough to have Matt as our knowledgeable guide through this fascinating pre-civil war home. The ownership by Gov John Motley Morehead anchors the house in the history of North Carolina, but the Italianate design by NY architect Alexander Jackson Davis surprises by...More
