This highly recommended museum of ancient Puebloan artifacts is in a temporary location due to the renovation of the permanent site on the campus of Western New Mexico University. We went anyway and are so glad we did. The assistant director was available and spent over an hour with us describing the small exhibit available during the renovation and answering... More

There is only one display cabinet in a building away from the original museum while the building/museum is being renovated. The items displayed were tremendous examples of Mimbres. No pictures and limited display keeps the rating lower than it would be once the museum is complete. It is nice to see this entire university, including the hall with the museum,... More

Western New Mexico University (WNMU) is truly an up and coming place to get educated. The courses are challenging, practical and taught by quality faculty. The WNMU museum has the greatest collection of gorgeous, historic and detailed Mimbres pottery from the 12th century in the world. An extra bonus is that all of the people we met were so friendly.

This small but excellent museum showcases the culture of the local Mimbres people, primarily through their pottery. Other artifacts are also presented, and there is a small exhibit about the early mining days. Donation only, no entrance fee. Worth a visit.

The museum will close the end of July, 2016, for a year or longer for a major renovation. When it reopens, it will be a 5-star. The museum has in its possession the best historical collection of all things Mimbres. What we saw in June of '16 was exceptional, many pieces of memorabilia are ancient evidence of the Mimbres peoples.... More

Wonderful collection of Mimbres pottery from SE New Mexico. Could have explained how we do not know more about these people because of the destruction caused by pot hunters destroying any other useful artifacts retrieving these pots, but some of the collection may have been donated by these people. It will be closed at the end of July for 14... More

We thoroughly enjoyed this small museum which focuses on Native American art--mainly pottery and baskets. The museum was undergoing renovation, and will probably be even better when completed.

This was our first stop in Silver City. It's a great small museum featuring the Mimbres culture, similar to the Anasazi of central New Mexico. The museum displays are very good and are well labeled so.visitors can follow the development of this ancient culture of southwestern New Mexico. The pots displayed are the best examples of Mimbres style that we... More

Following the good reviews, we stopped here on a Sunday afternoon to go through this gem of a museum. It is very small, but it explains the Mimbres culture through several hundred years. The pottery is magnificent and is well worth the time. There is no admission but there is a donation box at the end!! We donated generously as... More
