You can have a nice view of the NY skyline from the dock while waiting for the ferry for free and then, a beautiful trip down the River for less than 3 dollars with the skyline and the views of the Williamsburg and Brooklyn bridges. Cheaper than taxis and uber and clearely more interesting if you want to see the city from the water. Note: In December, we couldn't access the deck of the ferry, we were only welcome inside.

We were staying in DUMBO and took the ferry up to Williamsburg. It was cheaper than an Uber and was a fun little ride on the East River. Download the NYC Ferry app for e-tickets and timetables!

I guess locals there use it for their everyday commuting needs so it is no surprise that there are very frequent and timely ferries going back and forth all the time. Also surprising was the number of stops it makes. It was Friday so it was not packed by any means, it was super clean, best part, they serve drinks...beer, coffee, you know for being a mode of public transport in a sense, the fact you can grab a beer on your way back from work it's amazing!

We had gone to Brooklyn by subway and by walking the bridge from NY city but this time we took the ferry from the 42st street dock. Ferry was on time, absolutely clean inside and outside, only $2.75 for a one way ticket. After spending time in Dumbo , another trip to the Wall Street dock. Don't miss the opportunity!

We stayed in North Williamsburg and this ferry was a very cheap and convenient way to get to either Dumbo or lower Manhattan. The whole journey takes only 20 minutes and costs just $2.20. Plus you get great views of Manhattan and the East River.
