Built by Fielding Lewis (Lewis and Clark family) and his wife Betty (George Washingtons' sister) as an example of fine construction techniques and for entertaining the upper class. The high point of the home are the elaborate carved plaster ceilings in 3 of the rooms on the main level. The second floor is not part of the tour. Well worth... More

An old historic home with simply beautiful plaster work ceilings. Although the home is large you only get to see about 4 rooms on the first floor. At the visitors entrance they have a very informative exhibit. Total visit time 1-2 hours depending on how much time you spend in the exhibit. If you plan on seeing several of the... More

This beautiful home built by Fielding Lewis and his wife Betty (George's sister) is a stunning example of an 18th century colonial mansion. It has been carefully restored and furnished with period pieces. The focal point of this mansion is the plasterwork in the ceilings as well as the ornate molding. Couldn't stop looking at it. Our guide was very... More

The Kenmore Plantation is a nice place to visit and is educational. The tour of the house is beautiful and gardens (when in season) is also enjoyable to see. This is kid friendly.

Virginia abounds in fantastic mansions and estates for both Colonial and Civil War periods - this is the best of the Colonial period. Built by the brother in law of George Washington, Fielding Lewis, a rich F'burg merchant, who spent most of his fortune bankrolling the American Revolution and nearly ended up destitute, like many others including Thomas Nelson, as... Beautiful home of George Washington's sister. Check out the ceilings. No access to upstairs . Hear about all the work to restore this beautiful mansion. No photos allowed inside the house.

Nobody ever thinks of visiting Fredericksburg, Virginia, but you should. Kenmore is one reason that you should. It is a nice house. The tour guide was fun and very informative. Two downsides: no photos in the house of gallery, and it is closed January and February.
