Located near historic Savannah, this park borders Skidaway narrows, a part of Georgia’s intracoastal waterway. Trails wind through maritime forest and past salt marsh, leading to a boardwalk and observation tower. Visitors can watch for deer, fiddler crabs, raccoon, egrets and other wildlife. Inside the park’s interpretive center, birders will find binoculars, reference books and a window where they can look for migrating species such as Painted Buntings. Children will especially enjoy seeing the towering, 20-foot Giant Ground Sloth replica and reptile room. A scenic campground is nestled under live oaks and Spanish moss, while groups can enjoy privacy in their own pioneer campgrounds. Open-air picnic shelters and an enclosed group shelter are popular spots for parties, reunions and other celebrations.

This is truly my favorite state park. The great thing about this park is it's great for either a week's stay or a day trip. It's a short drive to historic Savannah or Tybee. The walking trails are nice and well maintained. Nice place for bike riding. Great bird watching place. In April the painted buntings start arriving. There are... More

My husband and I camped for 4 nights. We love camping at the state parks. We setup at lot 76 and it was perfect. Large lot with tent pad, fire ring and the perfect spot for our hammock. About 20 mins to Savannah and 30 mins to Tybee. Nice, flat, paved roads for riding bicycles. Staff super friendly and helpful.... More

Last time I was in the park was the end of the 70's when it has a public pool, and was just a picnic area. Since my wife works at a park in NC, she likes visiting parks that we pass by and placed this on her visit wish list. We stopped at the office to pay the parking fee,... More

I had thought I'd seen a lot of Spanish Moss on trees in Savannah but there was so much more along the Avian Trail in the Park. So beautiful and unusual to see for a northerner!

We stopped here for a quick run on the nature trails. The rangers were friendly and helpful, nature trails and map were clearly marked. The campground looks nice, maybe a little clinical for the area but well-maintained. A great stop for some nature sightings.

Visiting from the North, I was in awe of the southern vegetation in this park. A nice place to take a walk. There is a three mile loop that winds through the park. Be aware that the observation stand on the loop is not accessible due to damage by Hurricane Matthew. A great place to unwind after a day of... More

Skidaway is great for those looking to experience the outdoors around Savannah. It is one of the only parks around where you can take a long hike. Remember to bring bug spray, water and sun protection.

Our camping group spend five days RV camping at Skidaway State Park, and found it to be very nice and convenient to downtown Savannah. The ranger staff was very helpful and made getting to our site easy. The bathroom facilities were well maintained, up to date and always clean. The sites were level and the power was well conditioned. Even... More
