Savannah History & Haunts Candlelit Walking Ghost Tour

727 reviews
Though charmingly romantic by day, Savannah becomes altogether spookier after sundown. Discover the city’s macabre side when you embark on a nighttime, ghostly walking tour, illuminated by candlelight. Meet your costumed guide in central Savannah after dark, and discover its historical squares, cobblestone streets, moss-draped trees, and even its cemeteries. As you go, learn about the city’s scariest ghost stories, unexplained happenings, and chilling characters.

This was an interesting experience. Congregation Mickve Israel is the third oldest Jewish congregation in America & the first synagogue built in Georgia. It also is the only neo-gothic sanctuary in the US. Its unique architecture led Condé Nast Traveler to name Congregation Mickve Israel one of the 15 Most Beautiful Synagogues in the World. We had a docent tour & saw the 2 oldest Torah scrolls in the US, written in the 1400s. Note tours are available only from Mon. to Fri. & you need to use on-street parking.

I was not able to go in, but the architecture and outdoor displays were impressive. Well presented and maintained, right on a square.

Nice tour with friendly people. I got to learn the history of the first Jews in America, who I did not know were from Portugal.

A most historic Temple with an excellent tour and small museum upstairs. The Jewish culture and tradition of Savannah is a long and storied one.

The synagogue makes it so easy to enjoy an integral part of Savannah's history. The presenter was welcoming and gave an interesting and detailed presentation. I went on my own as it was not part of my Road Scholar itinerary ( a real hole in their program). It is two stories (with a clean well functioning elevator is steps are a problem) and has a delightful gift shop. If you are interested in Savannah history, don't miss it!
