Walking on the cobblestones along the river is so much fun. Bars, shops and restaurants line the street and benches are plentiful for resting along the way. The various stairs to get here can be tricky but there is an elevator mid way so find that for an easier, safer way up to Bay Street.

I was excited to check out River St. last week, because I had read so many great things about it. However, our first introduction to the area consisted of being accosted by a woman who was posing as a concierge-type person behind a podium, where we thought we could ask some questions about the area. She was, in fact, working... More

Of all the places you could visit on a precious day in Savannah River St. doesn't seem worth the time or the effort. Yes, scenic, but always crowded and the places to visit are just tourist traps. Explore the squares south from the river, and Forsyth Park, and skip River St.!

We visited river street one evening and during the day. The place is different at both times; in the evening it is buzzing with bar/cafe life and there's lots to choose from. During the day there are some quirky shops and galleries which are worth a visit.

I enjoyed having a leisurely stroll along the river. I loved popping into the Shrimp Factory's bar and getting a beer to go. Yep! You can do that in Savannah. Most of the shops have cute items. My favorite shop was on the far end (sorry I don't remember the name) but it had very clever, unique gifts. The walk... More

Took a morning walk along River Street. Watching a container ship navigate the river was interesting, but I found shops carried the same stuff made overseas that you can buy anywhere, just with a different logo. I tried several places for lunch but found their entryways so grubby I wouldn't go in. Same for the tourist elevator by city hall...filthy.

Okay so shops and restaurants close early if it's not Friday or Saturday. Savannah gets lit only on these two nights. Outside of that, it's typically very quiet here but the River Street walk is worth the visit.

I was hoping for interesting shops and a fun walk by the water - but instead it was T-shirt shops and bars.

Aside from early mornings, the Riverfront is bustling with tourists, local vendors, musicians, magicians and everyone in between. Plenty of trinket shops, candy stores, restaurants and unique happy hour libations. Drinking is rampant here and can sometimes cause a little more entertainment then anticipated, but interesting to experience non the less.
