O.K. this area certainly draws in the tourist but it is much more than t-shirts shops and trinkets. Great history from end to end and some first rate dining. No shortage of bars or live music along the way which also seems to draw a lot of locals. Had the good fortune of being there on "first Friday" which often... More

River street is a great way to eat and shop with blocks of little boutiques and restaurants. Must see and do.

We have visited Savannah many times since our son lives there. River Street is ok to see one time, but really just extremely a tourist stop. Many shops, out door markets, restaurants, artists.

Savannah Riverwalk was lovely and we had a great time. We stayed at a hotel at the very end of the Riverwalk, which was nice and had a great restaurant and pub at the bar. The Riverwalk was nice, but not well lit for a nightime walk. I didn't feel very safe walking it alone, so make sure you have... More

Lovely architecture and very scenic. I could do without the zillion t shirt shops and such but worthy of a visit.

River Street is home to lots of shops, bars, restaurants and open spaces with benches for you to sit on and watch the ships go by. There is also a small visitor centre there. We went there on a Saturday afternoon and the place was busy with tourists, street artists, a few market stalls by the river and some live... More

Spent an afternoon in early December walking River Street. The river itself was fun to watch; some areas of seating along the river path; ferry from the other side of the river was free and ran every 20 minutes; enjoyed all the history and historical buildings; lots of specialty shops, local artist galleries, etc. on the second (or higher) floors... This place is fun! Quite a few shops to occupy your time. Be sure to stop by the candy shops to get your praline, pecan cluster, taffy, english toffee, and caramel apple fix. There is ALOT to sample. Kick back with nice brew or sips some coffee. The merchants are hospitable.
