Be prepared for the unusual and imaginative at this museum housing works by non-mainstream artists, including the "whirligig", a 55-foot wind-powered sculpture, a 10-foot model of the Lusitania made entirely out of match sticks and a mobile that spans three floors.

Each piece has a story attached, and all of the pieces are threaded through a museum-wide narrative in a thoughtful and thought-provoking way. Some pieces will amuse, some will bemuse, some will challenge. Be sure to read the information that comes with the artworks and...More

Not your typical art museum but a collection of very unusual art and eclectic objects. Good way to spend a couple hours in Baltimore. Worth the admission price. Art objects change periodically so come back a year later to visit again.

What a find for the folk/outsider art lover. Reasonable entrants fee with a lo let restaurant on the top of the main building. The art pieces are thought provoking, creative with use of materials and truly amazing(check out the steamsheet cruise liner made out of...More

This is an art museum for independent artists. I am consistently mesmerized by their resident and rotating exhibits.

I make a point of seeing every new exhibit at AVAM, and I bring everyone who visits me here in Baltimore to it. It’s an amazingly beautiful and moving collection. The art is primarily by self-taught artists who make art to deal with tragedy, illness...More
