Last time I was in Gettysburg in 2007 (I used to travel here all the time, but marriage and child came and things changed). My husband , mom and daughter drove around looking for the old Visitor Center. Once we realized where it was, we immediately stopped and scheduled a tour. I love the changes and the fact that the... Clean, interesting. We went early on a Sunday morning...highly recommend going early. The movie was engaging and everything else was better than expected.

When I reviewed the 2015 top rated 25 US Landmarks on Trip Advisor, my husband and I were surprised that we'd never visited one in a state we once lived in. We spontaneously decided to "stop by" Gettysburg as we were driving to New York, and foolishly allowed ourselves a little over an hour. Big mistake. For starters it's not... More

For $12.50/person you can view a 20 minute film with a brief overview of the three day battle of Gettysburg. After the film, you get to see the Gettysburg Cyclorama, the largest oil painting on display in North America. The film was very informative and the Cyclorama was unique and interesting. I'd recommend both.

If you want to tour the battlefields, make sure to stop here first. You can purchase the auto tour (my cashier at the ticket booth recommended the "Brains" one--I can't remember the full name-- that's narrated and researched by a former certified guide). You can easily spend an hour or so, just in the visitor center. And the gift shop... More

Worth the money, especially as a starting point/intro for anyone, including kids. Can easily spend 2 hours there. Very informative with a movie, cyclorama (beautiful), and self walk through museum. I recommend.

This should be your very first stop. The museum is very well done and has frequently changing special exhibits. The only issue is flow. Some areas can get congested. The jewel of the visit is the restored Cyclorama...a national treasure.

My wife and I were very impressed with the cleanliness, organization of the Visitors Center and all of the volunteers who were there to help.
