Very clean nature refuge just outside of Philadelphia. They had no electric while we were there, but it didn't matter. Clean restrooms. Nice flat walking areas (some shady) and viewing areas with many spots to sit and rest. We saw many small turtles, and one...More

Visited the Tinicum NWR on a sunny Saturday morning after we had had lots of rain the previous day. Happily, the trails are mostly gravel and pavement, so it was possible to avoid mud puddles most of the time. There is a three mile trail...More

I can't think of anywhere in Delaware County where you can be more away from suburbia than across the highway from PHL Airport and back on the paths at JHNW Refuge. Bicycling is best to see more of the pathways that surround the park. Park...More

The Refuge has all sorts of wildlife...turtles, fish, red wing blackbirds, stick bugs. There's a building with educational displays about John Heinz and the wildlife residing. Also they show about ecology. There's a gift shop. But the best part is the walk! Very family friendly....More

Stopped here for a short walk in the woods. Easy access and plentiful parking. Beautiful fauna, trails are mostly well marked - but did some trail blazing in the higher grassy areas. Wear long pants to protect legs. The highway noise unfortunately reminds you that...More

I went on a nice rainy Monday and had the whole place to myself. It's flat, and mostly made-made surfaces on the trails, no no hiking shoes are required. One section is only 50 yards from I-95. So glad area residents saved this gem for...More
