Welcome Park

It was the site of William Penn's house and the government for Pennsylvania, now a park with a grid that is also a map of Center City. Interesting little stop.

In the densely built neighborhood near 2nd and Walnut Sts., the expansive Welcome Park wedged between a parking garage and a commercial building seems a bit out of place and decidedly cramped. This is a very small little area that's interesting because it is laid out like William Penn originally planned the city. There's a mural along the wall with some somewhat interesting history. Takes all of 10 minutes to see.

This park is tucked away and next to the Ritz movie theater. It's a nice, clean park with elements of history about William Penn. It certainly is a nice surprise to come across in a crowded city. Thanks Philadelphia for having some of the best small delights.

I honestly enjoyed the history about William Penn from the wall of history(his life on a timeline) at the Old Town Welcome Center just as much if not more than the "bell" or the tour of the Independence Hall. He was quite the "rebel-rouser" and a very honest man of Quaker faith and principals from this history wall account. He... More
