I had an afternoon in Philly to myself, in between my post-red eye flight nap and wedding festivities, and somehow decided on this place. It was a great choice. Full of artifacts from around the ancient world, manageable in an afternoon, centrally located, and not...More

Nice stop to make in a beautiful area of Philadelphia. The collections are rather good, but the Egyptology stands out among them. The staff did not seem particularly knowledgable, and it would have been nice if guided tours had been available.

I wish we were able to get in. The only parking structure near the museum was closed. How do you put a museum in the middle of the medical district and offer no parking? It was a waste of time.

The Penn museum offers very detailed exhibits on Egypt, Ancient Rome & Greece, and some areas of the Americas (Southwest & Arctic Peoples). The space is itself is very interesting, especially the main rotunda.

The Penn Museum was a real hit with the Egyptology fans in our family. The collection is well curated, and the guard/docent took the time to teach us some hieroglyphics that added to our enjoyment of many of the artifacts. The garden is beautiful.

Have been a couple times and not really seen everything in detail. This is a surprisingly big museum with large Egyptian and Greek/Roman sections in addition to several others. There are some very large architectural features here, not just smaller artifacts. Well worth spending a...More

If you go here you're likely doing it for their Egypt collection which is one of the best I've ever seen, The Chinese/Japanese collection was also very good. The big highlight here was probably the Sphinx. This is an excellent place to visit on a...More

The focus of this museum is archeology and anthropology, with an emphasis on the Mediterranean area. We learned some amazing facts about ancient Egypt from a very friendly and helpful museum guard. The gift shop has a lot of fun items too.

Very good exhibits of ancient world and enjoyed the mound building apecial exhibit. Some areas were a little warm as there was no air conditioning, but that was only issue. Come on a saturday when parking cheaper and easier to get a spot.

Growing up in Philly we always called this place "The Mummies" - it's changed since then but it's still a great place to visit. We parked in the Penn Museum's lot and it is a flat $25 rate for parking. Ouch! Next time I will...More

Amtrak will take you to 30th St. station and you would have to take a taxi to the Museum - public transportation is complicated

Time at the museum depends on tour interests beyond a walk-through. 2 hours would be good and there are a few places around the museum where you can have a coffee/tea/drink when you get tired. I recommend the restaurant for... More
